Hi,
are you using windows xp sp2, this issue normally occurs with it
a fast fix is:
go to start menu> run > type in devmgmt.msc > ok

1) Device Manager will open

2) Locate "Universal Serial Bus controllers" in the list and expand

3) Select the first USB Universal Host Controller.

4) Right click and select "Properties"

5) Go to the "Advanced" tab

6) Check "Don't tell me about USB errors"

7) Click "OK"

Note. If you have multiple host controllers then they should all be affected by the above action.

8) Close Device Manager

    Hi,
thanx for the good comment, what have you connected to your usb port which has led to production of this error, or is it producing the error without any device connected to the usb.

    awaiting reply

    hi,
this can be because of both software and hard ware, but most likely it can be the hardware, lets try three things

    1) try booting the system into safe mode
restart the system and when you see the acer logo start tapping the F8 key
    2) now select the option safe mode from the menu that appears on screen
    3) safe mode will have just the basic device drivers on your machine
    4) now when you logon do you see the same error message,

if yes > this can mean that we might have a hardware problem, but software problem can also be there but probability is low

if no > try using some device using the usb port if it works fine we are definetly having some problem with the software

    1) do you remember the day this started to happen or the day it was working fine, if so
you can also use system restore to restore it back to that date when it was working fine, but using system restore will mean that you will loose all the software installed after the restore date and also the settings after the restore date

use the following link( use system restore option)

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using...

hopefully this might solve your issue

if this didn't resolve your issue

    try the following

go to start menu> run > type in devmgmt.msc > ok

    1) Device Manager will open

    2) Locate "Universal Serial Bus controllers" in the list and expand

    3) Select the first USB Universal Host Controller.

    4) Right click and select "remove"

    5) confirm

and retstart your system when it will be restarted the drivers will be reinstalled, it might ask you for Operating system or drivers CD,

one more thing i have found one thread on the internet regarding this and issue with service pack 3 here is the link

Sounds like your laptop's USB ports are not capable of providing enough power to operate your card reader or pen drive. I suggest you buy an active USB hub (one with external power source, rather than the one which draws power from the laptop's USB port), & attach your card reader and/or pen drive to that USB hub.

Hp nx6110 laptop error power surge on hub port

OK if you have anything plugged into the USB Ports at bootup, unless Keyboard or Mouse, remove everything, and see if it boots normally, if it does, then the "Hub" you are using may be faulty, or a device you are using is drawing a lot of current at switch on and overloading the USB bus, that can only supply 500mA. If it still does it, and you do use a USB KB & Mouse, then remove them one at a time & reboot, between, and see if it was one of them causing the problem. If you have nothing attached then your internal USB bus is flaky.

My USB ports are not working. I Updated BIOS and each USB driver and HUB individually and still nothing is working in the ports.

Are the usb ports enabled in bios? and set to hi-speed?

I have had this problem where the port was damaged and overcame it by buying a usb port pcmcia card. To confirm it's physical damage you'll have to open the laptop up

Usb ports do not active

One of the great features of USB devices is they can get power from the USB port. Plug in a thumb drive and it just works. The power for operating the thumb drive comes from the USB port. This works for small devices like a thumb drive but not something big like a scanner. The scanner need its own power supply.

There could be several explinations for what you are seeing. Could be you are plugging in a device which is sucking too much power and the laptop is shutting it down. I would test the port with something small like a thumb drive and see if it works. If the thumb drive works but the other device does not a couple of things could be going on. Maybe the device just need power - is there a way to plug in a power supply? Or maybe the device is broken and shorted out. Does the device work on another computer?

If something like a thumb drive does not work then it is a problem with the motherboard. Could be the USB ports are bad. It happens and there usually is no easy fix short or replacing the motherboard ($$$). Occasionally there is a BIOS setting for the USB ports. A bit of a long shot but worth a look.

A possible work around would be to get a power USB hub. A hub plugs into a USB port and provides 4 or 7 USB ports. Good ones come with a power supply. When the hub is plugged into the power supply it does not draw power from the computer. Might solve your problem.

Good luck!

Power surge on usb port

Hi,
unless your a very competant motherboard components repairer.
this is beyond repair. i,d suggest taking it to a repair centre, where they will replace the motherboard. and unfortunately a large invoice to go with it. probably more cost effective to look at a replacement laptop.

Acer Travelmate 3200 usb dont work

this may help - or not..

If you have damaged the USB chip on the motherboard, you may be able to disable it in the BIOS. Then when you install your PCMCIA card it may work...

USB is not as tolerant of short circuits as RS232. I know I managed to destroy one of the ports on my m/b.! Using a Hoover may not be a good idea.
