I am looking for a digital camera, but refuse to spend $200+ for one.
I've seen one called a "Jam Cam" in stores that is within our budget.
Now, I know for the $100 or so, it won't be spectacular, but that's fine
with us. We just want to be able to take the pictures and put them
directly on our computer for emailing, etc. My question is, has anyone
here had any experience with the Jam Cam? How good a quality are the
pics?
TIA,
Tracy

The problem with the Jam Cam is not the picture quality, which will
probably be about the same as any other digicam with a 640x480 CCD, but
the fact that it doesn't have an LCD preview display. Unless you keep a
computer handy to constantly download and evaluate your pics, such a
camera is next to worthless.
If you cannot afford $200, I strongly advise you to consider a
point-n-shoot 35mm or Advantix film camera. It will take much, much
better and more permanent pictures which don't require a computer to view,
at a much lower initial cost.
If you want a hard copy of a digital picture, you will need a printer
costing at least $300 (one with the Kodak photo enhancement software if
you expect it to really look like a photograph), and the consumables will
be almost as expensive as a film print. On the other hand if your main
purpose is to email pictures and put them on your website, I'd advise
saving up for at least a camera with a LCD preview display. It not only
helps when framing and makes it a lot easier to do macro work (I don't
even think the Jam Cam can take macro closeups, e.g. flowers or small
items you want to sell on eBay and so on), it allows you to
"instant-delete" pictures that don't come out and to browse your stored
images, deleting the poor ones to make room for new ones if you don't have
time to download.
The very cheap Polaroid PDC640 also has a removable memory "disk"
(actually a flash EPROM in a little floppy-disk shaped package) that can
be exchanged for a spare, supports multiple resolutions, and is generally
a pretty good piece of equipment except for its crappy resolution, which
doesn't matter if your main use for it is e-pics.

I saw an offer in an email that I receive from either bargaindog.com or
egghead.com a month or so back- it was a kids camrea and with the rebate the
final cost was $39!! It wasn't a Barbie one either but maybe if you go to
either of these sites you will have luck. I will take a look around for you
and see what I can find.

Polaroid PDC640 kit (includes all hook-ups, cables, software) for about
$120. There have been a couple of posts about this site in this newsgroup
already.

and would feel like a doofus toting this around. =) They also had one in the store
I looked at that came with a Cosmo mak-over thing. Cost about $90.00 or so. I
wouldn't really use the makeover software, but I'd use the camera! I'll have to
think about this. Anyone else with advice on digital cameras are encouraged to
reply! I'm looking for something in the $100 or so range.

Tracy

I figured for $35 I could use it to put up a few things at ebay then if it
seemed like I would be able to turn that into something bigger then i would
purchase a quality camera.
My daughter loves it. However I have not been able to figure out how to
trasfer the pitures out of the software program onto a floppy.
I hit the export key and export them into I don't know where. Once I was able
to get the picture into email but only by accident and I have not been able to
repeat it.
If I am going to post these to a site to use for ebay then I have to be able
to get these pictures exported to somewhere I can find them and ace

digital camera at Staples for around $69. The photo quality was excellent, and
I was really surprised and impressed. I'd highly reccommend it, provided you
don't mind the somewhat goofy flower on the camera...LOL
There are also nickelodean digital cameras for about the same price that are
far less embarrssing for men to tote around.
