Question about HP Compaq Presario Media Center SR1750NX (EL445AA) PC Desktop

After loading from both recovery disks, installation stops

Hi, I have a Compaq Presario SR1750NX. After loading from both recovery disks (OEM), it requires to restart the computer. When restarted, Windows goes from few windows then shows a blue screen and a message like : "Don't turn off the PC ... untill it will prompt you to do this". (it might not be exactly as it's shown on screen).
Also, at the bottomof the screen, there is a "Please wait" message and two green squares goes from left to right as the installation is still running. After few minutes everything freezes and there is no hard drive activity.
Can anybody tell me what to do, please? I tried few times to restart the procedure but it stops in the same spot. The recovery is a full one (with a partition re-creation). Thank you!

I removed the disk before I restarted the PC but... nothing better. Thanks!

Thanks, TampaNative. I will try to keep the disk in drive. It takes about two hours to restart the installation, so I'll let you know if it worked. Thanks again.

Are you leaving the Disk in when prompted to restart and letting the system complete the automated installation process? The system will do multiple restarts until the installation completes and you'll know when it's done, as you will have your windows desktop on your screen.

Shouldn't take two hours, but if it does? I would just start the installation and walk away and check back every half hour or so just to see if input from you is required to continue, but if not just walk away for a while again and the installation disk should do it's job.

My compaq presario/sr1750nx/ w sata drive/ amd 64 athlon. came with windows XP. I put put a new hard drive in the computer, with Windows 7 installed. I power up the tower, and the monitor stays blank?

Hi!

It is very unlikely to get the machine working when the windows 7 HDD was installed in a different type of computer, because all drivers installed with the operating system are related to the hardware from the other computer.
The best solution is to make a clean install, using the windows installation disk, and after that to download from Compaq's site the latest drivers.

If you still have reasons to use that previous installation, you can try to do the following:

1. Boot from the Windows installation disk
2. Follow all steps until it discovers the previous installation on the HDD
3. Choose to repair it (or better upgrade, if this option is available).

But doing so there only 50-50 chances to get it work, or to get it to be stable.

Hope it helped.

Regards,

Try taking the newly installed RAM out and re-seating it. If the persists you might have a bad block on the memory chip

For that you will need a bootable CD with Winxp.
Before, be shure you will have an a CD or DVD with drivers for Video and Audio card, network etc, the kits instalation files for programs you use and the serial number for license
Insert your disk with winxp instalation on cdrom or dvd unit and reboot.
When you  will begin to install windows, format the partition.

Can't reboot Compaq/Presario desktop, (power supply is working)

If the system recovery disk doesn't work it usually mans that the hard drive is bad. I would change the hard drive and use the system recovery disk on it after replacement.

Have you tried the Compaq Application driver recovery?

Click on Start , All programs , and then Hewlett-Packard or Compaq .

NOTE: If the Hewlett-Packard or Compaq folder does not appear, skip to the next step.

Then, click on any of the folders below (just one of them will be available depending on the model of your computer):
  1. HP Pavilion PC Tools ,

  • Compaq Presario PC Tools ,
  • PC Help and Tools , or
  • PC Recovery Tools .
  1. Click HP or Compaq Application Recovery .
  2. Select Driver Installation and click Next .
Select which drivers are to be installed, If you don't have this console go to windows update to see if microsoft can auto update for you,
