WOW, I had the same problem and and this worked. The only differnce is I held the button for about 20 seconds and nothing happened. When I attempted to do it again, it turned on immediately.

    Thanks for the help

Thank you for the help...I had the same problem after using mine for about 6 months. I held the button in for about 30 sec. and now it works great.

Me too, I held the switch on for a full minute, nothing happened. I then plugged it into my computer, switched it on and it worked!

Wow...I had mine for two days. It was plugged into my computer, and then started giving battery low warnings-it then just died-would not come back on. I was preparing to send it back to Amazon when I came across this site.

Read the answers, went out to the car, and held the power on for about a minute. Let it off, and it started right up!

You guys are great, thanks so much...

Garmin needs to know about this, sounds like a frequent problem

I just had the same issue, after using the unit for 11 months.
WOULD NOT power on... and i freaked.
This is what solved it, no matter how strange it sounds...
I held the 'power switch' to ON for 20 secs, then it came on again.

I hope this works for you as well!

I bought my nuvi 760 a month ago. It did not turn on after 3 hours of last use. I did hold the ON button for 1-minute, as suggested on this site by some nice guy. Thanks it is working again.

Garmin 760 doesn't work while charing

There is nothing wrong with your gps unit so you can relax and prepare for your trip!

While your unit is connected to the computer via usb cable as in recharging, you cannot operate it as a gps at the same time.

You will find that once the usb cable is disconnected that your unit is working normally.

Enjoy yourself.

Can not turn on my GPS Garmin nuvi 760

Can you try the direct to outlet charger? If you dont have one can you try a different charger? If that does not work then that means that the unit might be defective. Contact Garmin at 1-800-800-1020

Nuvi 760 suddenly stopped working - will not turn back on

Try holding the power slide to the left and holding it there for 8 seconds. If that doesn't work, try charging it via your PC & USB cable. If that doesn't work, try a mains charger if you have one (I had to do this with mine). Good luck!

New Nuvi 760 that won't work

Using the PC to charge a Nuvi is not the correct way to charge. Use either the AC wall charger or DC car charger. Many PC USB ports can not supply enough current to charge a Nuvi.
