Why cant Dell AIO924 printer print from Vista32 & Linux desktop?

Thank you so much for advising.

I saw the above page at Dell's website before enquiring. The problem is two fold:
    a) I tried the usual way of installing the drivers into Vista 32 (they are the same anyway with Visa), got everything installed, wire connected, but when I started printing, there is dialog box that opened and it says "error.. no connection".
    b) I tried in Linux (another PC). After installing Ubantu 8.10, it did a auto-scan and found the 924 AIO printer settings. Afterwhich, when I tried to print any document, it got the same message as above. So, I tried to find the driver and went to "Printer configuration", but under the "Make and Model", there wasnt any Dell AIO924 driver available...

Frustrating! And if this cannot be resolved, I will junk the printer and change to a HP compataible.

I solved it!.. Just unplug the USB printer cable and plug it again. On the printer and viola... dont know why it works this time (cos I have been threatening it that I will junk it away...haha). But it is the 4th day and it still works on the PC with Vista-32.

As for Linux, another day perhaps...

Per the manual at ("http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/924/en/om_en/om_en.pdf" if you don't have it) on page 13:

"
This printer is compatible with:
Windows® 2000
Windows® XP
Windows Vista®"

don't know if Vista 32 is the same as Vista, but you may want to go to the site at ("http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/product_support/en/printers/aio?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~section=009") to find updated drivers for the printer. good luck!

Trying to add dell photo AIO 962 printer to my toshiba satellite laptop which is running windows 7. have followed dell website instructions to download driver/firmwear etc and chosen vista 32bit under drop...

Hi! Regarding this matter. The dell photo AIO 962 may not be compatible with windows 7 thats why it gives you the error message. You downloaded the driver using vista32 but you have a windows 7 on you machine, its not gonna work. It may work on the toshiba if you gonna downgrade from windows 7 to vista, but if you dont want that option you can wait for sometime to have an AIO 962 update for windows 7 for it to work. Hope this helps and have a good one!

1600n Printing an Extra Page everytime...

I had a computer experiencing the same problem.
I found under the printer properties that there was 2 drivers listed; both say "Dell Laser MFP 1600n PCL 6"
I swtiched the settings from one to the other.
The Printing Preferences also show more options.

  • Open the Printer(Control Panel->Printers>Dell MFP 1600n)
  • On the menu at the top click Printer->Properties
  • Click the tab at the top Labeled Advanced
  • Change the driver and Click Apply
This should fix your problem.

Dell AIO924 printer

you may need to install the whole cd package w/c includes the scanning application program, or you can try using a sifferent software like the one in windows, under accessories look for scanner, if your system cannot find the scanner, then the driver for the scanner wasnt fully or not yet installed,

pls look for the scanner software, what you have installed is only for the printer alone.

cheers
