How do you know the fuse in the microwave is no good?

So my microwave is not warming or cooking but the displays light up and I took out the fuse and examined it but I dont know what i am looking for? Will the fuse be broken? Thanks for any advice.

First you need to see if the energy is being produced, go to an electronic store, here in UK Maplins ( US radio shack) and purchase some standard 5mm red led's cut off the leads close to the led.palce them in the oven and put on cook for 5 seconds, if they light then you have energy. if not then start looking for a large fuse inside the casing, check this and then check the control fuses on the boards.
lots of shops sell cheap fuse testers. best of luck

LG microwave intermittently runs

I would try troubleshooting the "defrost circuit". The behavior sounds like the microwave is cooking in the defrost mode, where it actively cooks then stops allowing the food to rotate and the heat to spread then actively cooking again.

Need help with my Gold Star microwave.

i just took out my fuse on the same model. you have to pull down the microwave and take cover off. there should be like 6 screws on backside and cover will slide back and off. then you will see a fuse cover with a small cylinder fuse in a plastic cover. pull it out and check continuity with volt meter. mine unfortunately came up good still, so i dont know what kinda problem mine is having. had a short in light and it popped and power was gone. good luck!!

NNP-294 Dead

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

If you suspect the fuse at all, it's best to replace it.

With the microwave unplugged, if you can easily turn the fuse with your thumb & forefinger while it's in the holder, it has overheated and fatigued and the holder should be replaced.

Simply squeezing the holder's terminals together with pliers is not really a good solution.

An intermittent door switch will not make the unit intermittently dead, it will only make it not heat, and depending on the model, it will also likely make the turntable and inside light not come on. But again it depends on the model.

You may need to clean and/or realign the door mechanism or door switch mounts.

This is especially true in case a user opens the door while it's cooking without hitting Stop first or slams the door. Both are big no-nos for a microwave.

The main parts that will kill the power are the fuse, fuse holder, or thermostat or thermal cutout, which are usually located on or above the magnetron and on the top of the cooking cavity.

GE Over the Range Microwave/Convection won't start

So it's dead - that is to say no display, no lights, and no response from the keypad?

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open. When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.
