Question about ATI Diamond Multimedia Stealth RADEON HD 2400 PRO, (512 MB) PCI Express Video Card

ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro install - computer won't boot when added

I have a Compaq Presario SR1055CL desktop and am trying to add an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro - 8X AGP video card. The machine will not boot up when I install the card (including attaching the power cable to the video card). The installation instructions state that I need to disable the on-board video through the device manager - did that - and the system may require that I change primary display adapter in the system BIOS. The system BIOS only has two options for primary display adapter:
1) Motherboard/AGP
2) PCI

Am I having a conflict between the motherboard video adapter and the add-on ATI card?

Any suggestions for a fix? I am running XP home edition service pack 2.

I have the same problem but I have a HD 2400 PCI card (not PCI-e)

The M/c boots ok then Windows XP starts to boot.

I get the mouse curser and it moves ok but the backgroud is black.

    No windows graphics

This happens in Safe mode as well. I do get the safe mode in the four corners of the screen.

    Please help

1: You state you cannot boot up. How are you able to disable the onboard video if the system doesn't boot?

2: How much watt can your pwer supply produce and is that enough for the system including new graphics card?

3: If you can select wether you want motherboard or PCI for your display, try to find out what connection the graphics card is. Is it PCI or PCI-E?

Installed new video card, system reboots

your current graphics card settings is not set to the correct level to match your system, you can download ATI Catalyst software from this link:

after installing, you may have to restart your computer. when you restart, right click on the desktop and select (ATI catalyst), there you can adjust your graphic card features or you can use the recommended settings the software have adjusted for your graphic card by clicking on restore settings/defaults.

you should not encounter problems once you have installed the ATI software.
