Please explain more. Do you receive an error?

    Try this.

Put the windows xp cd in the cd drive restart and when it loads up you should be able to update it.

First of all does the cd boot into the xp installer. If not the the setting in the Bios would be to boot from HardDisk first. Get into bios by the appropriate key on boot and change the boot order to cd/dvd first and then hdd. Now save settings and restart the system and the xp cd should boot up and you will be able to install xp. Be careful as you may delete all data on the hdd.

Some bios use the del or f2 key to enter, see press __ to enter setting's or bios.In that goto the boot order and change appropriately.
If xp is already installed then if other drives are not acessing saying not formatted then the easy fix would be to right click on non formatted drive and click on format. Then you will be able to access it. Do same for all other drives.

How do i restore bk to factory settings on a emachines 130 pc runnind windows xp as i carnt load msn onto it or anythink like that i brought the pc second hand and want to start from fresh with it

If you buy a copy of XP with the service pack, load the XP system CD and let it format and reset the hard drive. When it has loaded XP, install the required drivers and then install Service Pack 3, that will allow you to download the latest Microsoft updates and there you go, a new system.

Hi,

Your not going to be able to update the BIOS without having XP installed on the computer.
I had the same problem myself as a motherboard i had would not update with Win 7 installed.
If you have a spare hard drive and an XP install disk then i recommend installing XP on that and then download the exe BIOS update file and run it from within Windows to update the BIOS.
After that just turn the PC off, put back your Win 7 hard drive and your good to go.

Regards.

UNABLE TO BOOT FROM WINDOWS XP

First Make sure your cd/dvd rom detected in bios.
For that First open cpu cabinet refix power cable and ide cable to harddisk.
Then check your bootable recovery disk and cd/dvd rom working fine.
When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios .
Then go to boot option and set first boot device as your cd/dvd rom then save settings and exit.
Then it boot with disk .
If still not boot then there may be some issue with cd/dvd rom or bootable disk.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.

your HDD may be bad. I have had a number of HDD that appear fine in the BIOS but won't format either via the install disk or separately via a Linux boot disc.(You can somtimes hear them clicking on and off [seeking])

If you are mad keen on the drive, then D/L 'Hirens Boot Disc' and boot into the DOS mode (it also has a Mini XP mode).and use the HDD format utlity 'killdisk'. This will remove anything on the drive, format it and set it up ready for a fresh install.

If Hirens Boot Disk can't see the SATA drive then its stuffed.. for sure..

Windows Xp says all usb ports are working correctly but unable to

Hi! and Welcome to Fixya,

just suggesting, in my own view, of how to troubleshoot USB problem.

BIOS Setup:
  • restart your PC
  • in booting process, press F2 or Delete tab, to show BIOS set up.
  • in BIOS setup, find the USB port see if it is Enable or Enable it.
  • save the changes and exit.
OS Problem:
  • Update your system to Microsoft, SP1, SP2 and SP3, browse the MS website for any drivers update that applicable to your system.
  • at the link below, see some updates to MS website:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.aspx

Drivers Problem:
  • update your system to Unit manufacturer or Motherboard Manufacturer for new drivers update of your system.
  • at the link below, see some updates to Intel websites.

format , and reload windows. if its bios settings ,download a bios update or flashin software to clear it. Very Important! Reload the right drivers after reloading windows, driver conflicts give lots of trouble.
