I hooked the box up, scanned, lost all channels I had, got two channel 4's and one channel 2. I bought an indoor antena, that I was told, went with the box. Hooked it up, got no signal, channel 8 came in very clear, couldn't make out channel 4, and no other cannels would work. HELP!

Most likely you have a problem with signal strength. Unlike the old analog broadcasts, where a weak signal just made the picture fuzzy, a weak signal on the digital channels isn't even detected. You will need a better antenna. Depending on how far you live from the stations, and what kinds of obstructions (buildings, hills, and such) are in the way, you might need to put up an outdoor antenna. But try an amplified indoor antenna first. You may find that's all you need.

If this has helped you, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thanks for asking here!

I replaced my TV and now my VCR Zenith Model 2100 will not record

Digital TV can use component video and stereo connections to record on analog VCR. Analog VCR needs DTV converter to record digital TV channels. VCR play back use AV channel on TV.

How to hook up to hd tv

Use the highest resolution connection your HD TV will allow. This will usually DR570's HDMI connector. Most all digital video devices have one or more. The DR570 has an HDMI OUT. Connect it to any HDMI IN connector on your TV. You will then need to set the TV's Input selection to the Input Number you connected the DR570 to. See your TV Remote or Manual.

The DR570 has three types of output connection options, in order of quality; HDMI, Component(Red/Blu/Grn RCA jacks), S-Video (circular connector), and composite (Red/Wht/Yel, where Yel is video and Red/Wht are left/right stereo audio). Red/Wht RCA Audio jack connections are required to be made on all Output types excepting HDMI.

Note, to get your Digital channels, you will need to toggle the DR570's DTV/TV button. DTV is Digital TV channels. TV is analog channels, the DR570 found on your Cable or Antenna RF input coax, after you have done the Setup/General/Channels/Scan (extended). Scan only finds analog channels. Extended Scan scans for both Analog and Digital channels found active on your Cable/Antenna RF connection.

Note also, the DR570 is not technically and HD receiver. The term High Defintion (HD) is reserved to mean 1080i or p resolution, the highest available. The DR570 is an Extended Definition (ED) 720i or p receiver. It up-converts its ED to fit an a 16:9 HD TV screen. You will hardly notice the difference on your TV, but it is the difference between watching a DVD Movie on a standard DVD player, like this one, as opposed to a full HD player like a Blue Ray.

Since they switched to digital TV, my VCR/DVD player will not record a TV program.

The DR-MV150B has both a digital tuner and analog tuner. Since the digital conversion you more likely have not run a channel scan for the new digital channels. Plugging in a digital tuner would work, but is unnecessary. What you probably have to do is run the 'auto scan' feature through the recorders menu. Hit "Home" button go to the "TV" icon and select "Auto Scan". It will take a few minutes, but recorder will scan for digital channels and memorize them.

No video output from Magnavox VCR (MDV560VR)

You need to tune a chanel on your tv to the vcr signal, using an RF cable (aerial cable between vcr and tv). That is if your tv has an analogue tuner.

TV Guardian menu won't come up after hooking up DTV converter box

You may want to check the digital converter boxes and make sure they have analog pass through, it should be listed on the box or the instructions. My Magnavox and Zenith which were bought about a year ago, do not have analog pass through.

Trying to make DVR work after 2-17-09

I have been able to record down converted HDTV shows on my Panasonic DMR-EH50 recorder directly to the unit's hard drive and/or directly to a blank DVD-R disc.

I do not know of any DTV converter box that can provide the proper codes to the Panasonic DMR-EH50 to allow recording and scheduling of shows using the unit's built in TV Guide menuing functions (the program recording codes are essentially VCR Plus codes in the USA and VCR Video codes in the UK, and this technology was previously owned by TV Guide/Gemstar but was purchased by Macrovision within the past couple of years.)

When the DMR-EH50 is hooked up to standard RG-59/U coaxial TV cable, the cable company provides the specific VCR Plus recording codes, as well as auto setting the time and date information required for the TV Guide recording schedule menus. The VCR Plus recording codes are sent via the cable company through the coaxial cable to the end consumer's recording device. Since Gemstar's VCR-Plus patents are now owned by Macrovision, I am not sure of how this works (or will work) for non-cable/non-satellite customers or if such codes will be made available by Macrovision to record shows when one receives HDTV signals (or down converted DTV signals) from an over-the-air antenna.

Though the DMR-EH50 recorder can only record at Standard Definition (SD) broadcast resolutions, I connect the DMR-EH50 to my High Definition TV using the three progressive scan YPBPR output cables and switch my HD-TV into the YPBPR mode when I want to watch shows from the DMR-EH50.

YPBPR are the analog video signals carried by three color coded component video cables. The green cable carries the Y signal; the blue cable carries the PB signal; and the red cable carries the PR signal. The added benefit of using the YPBPR hookup is that you can 'up convert' a standard DVD disc (non HD Blu-Ray disc) in progressive scan mode to somethin akin to 720p resolution using the DM-EH50 (or any other progressive scan DVD player) to get a better quality image on your HD-TV.

Visually speaking, the same appears to hold true for playback of programs recorded on the DMR-EH50's hard drive even though down converted via the DTV converter box, and when played back on an HD-TV using the YPBPR progressive scan cabling hookup.

I also been able to successfully record programs from the DTV converter box to the DMR-EH50 recorder in both 16:9 wide screen and 4:3 normal aspect ratios, but again only in Standard Definition quality.

For NTSC and PAL formats, the correct aspect ratios for any particular TV (the rectangular height and width of your output resolution for a TV screen) can usually be setup correctly for most any DTV converter box by going carefully through the menus on the converter box. Though the converted DTV often will yield 'better looking TV' than cable, it's certainly not high definition however, as the purpose of any DTV converter box is * not * to yield a High Definition digital TV signal but a lower quality Standard Definition signal for viewing on older SD-TVs.

We must remember that what is happening here is that (by NTSC USA standards), we are transcoding (i.e., down converting) an over the air 1920 x 1080p (progressive scan) High Definition digital broadcast signal, captured by your over the air antenna, back to a Standard Definition 720 x 480 resolution analog broadcast signal (the 720 x 480 resolution is a 4:3 aspect ratio.)

Hope this helps a little -
