I have no picture but it sounds to me like my old dryer. There should be a couple slots on the bottom piece of sheet metal. The pulley will appear to just loosely sit in these...wtf??? Its a trick its mostly the reverse pressure of holding the belt that keeps it in place. So when you removed the belt the idler just kinda fell outta place. mine was a whirpool though so ur situation could be totally different. good luck

There was a pulley at least thats what it looks like laying on the bottom of my dryer how do I fix it to make my dryer spin

hello berna.... that pulley is the idler pulley which keeps tension on the belt which turns the dryer drum. It apparently came unattached or in some cases unbolted. It will have to be put back in position. The dryer belt may also be broken or worn. consiter replacing both the belt and the idler pulley. Joe

How do you replace the drive belt in a kenmore dryer model 88042

Pull the fron off. Remove tub, should have a spring loaded idler pulley next to the motor. Make sure that it is not broke and spins freely. Also check tub support rolers on each side. They shoule spin freely. If ok, put belt around tub, install tu. Put belt around spring loaded pulley. May need a hand holding tub while you install pulley. Put front on. Make sure the fron of cover fits inside the tub seal. Good luck. email me with issues, bobby.crochet@lyondellbasell,com.

I have a Kenmore Gas Dryer (model 11087471810) that threw its belt. I have the replacement belt and know how to replace that. When I opened the bottom of the dryer, I noticed the Idler pulley sitting at...

The idler pulley/tensioner fastens into two slots in the base of the dryer to the left of the motor . The belt goes around the drum then through the idler to the motor pulley ,you have to make a loop with the excess belt and feed it through the idler pulley, i normally pull the plastic pulley towards the right side of the dryer to give enough belt to go around the motor pulley then let the plastic pulley rest on the backside of the belt. do not turn the drum too much as you may pull the belt back off .

Trying to put belt on drier but its to loose what im doing wrong

make sure the belt is around the motor pulley and the idler tension arm.it goes on like a serpintine belt on a car.pull the pulley to one side and then put the belt on the motor pulley and then release the idler pulley it should tighten up your belt.the outside of the belt should run along the inside of the idler pulley.it will almost look like a figure S.

Belt drum replacement

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured dryer (which inlcudes Kenmore, Roper, Estate, Kitchenaid, and Frigidaire), just follow these steps:

a. Loop the drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum from the previous belt).

b. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

c. While holding the tensioner in place, insert the belt UNDER the wheel with your right hand and pull it up and over the drive motor pulley.

If this does not explain it well enough, you can also verify by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the Repair Help link and look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section on the next page. Look for Whirlpool and locate diagram H.

NOTE: It is normal for the idler pulley to come loose when there is no belt tension.

If your dryer is not manufactured by Whirlpool, or if you simply aren't sure, please post back with your model number so I can give you more accurate information. I hope you find this helpful.

Dryer takes three cycles to dry took apart need help put back together

Model #?
If this is a standard dryer with the idler pulley, place the pulley into the slots to the left of the motor pulley. Bring the belt through the idler so it is running on the flat side of the belt and place the belt around the motor. The idler should be placing down pressure on the belt keeping it tight. make sure there are no twists all the way around the drum or it will pop off.

I am installing a new belt but the pulley that mounts to the ground i found was not attached and i am not posotive of its correct spot i need a diagram

The idler pulley goes in front of motor shaft. There is two slits in sheet metal where it slides in. after pulley is on. put the belt around drum and pinch belt together. put belt under idler wheel then put end on motor shaft. You can push up on idler pulley to get around motor.Make sure grooved side of belt is wrapped around drum. Good Luck!!

Belt broke

Buy a new belt. Insert the idler pulley into the slots under the motor pulley. The wheel should be on the left side of the motor as you face it.
Put the belt around the drum, then through the idler roller. Then over the motor pulley.

KENMORE SERIES 80 DRYER..The Tensioner use it or not and how?

To fit the new belt, you will need the idler pulley (tensioner)...

The idler pulley fits in the slots on the bottom of the cabinet (in front of the motor) with the wheel or glide facing the left side. Place the belt (grooves inward) around the drum. Pull the belt through the middle of the idler pulley from the left side. Once the belt is pulled through the idler pulley, pull it around the motor pulley (this should force the idler pulley to "open up" and add tension).

If you still need help, I will try to provide you with a diagram shortly.
Good luck!

Can't get replacement parts back on Kenmore 60 series dryer.

The belt has groves, right? Make sure the groves go over the motor pulley from the right. The idler pulley is spring loaded. Place the belt around the idling pulley with the smooth side of the belt on the pulley. This should work.
