I installed Windows 98 onto a brand new system, and it takes it between 5-10 minutes from when I hit the power button, to where it's finally ready for use. It also freezes often for approx. the same amount of time whiile installing or running programs. It will run perfectly when I load it in safe mode & when I put Win95 on it. It's a Pentium III 500mhz, A-Trend ATC-6240 motherboard, and I have tried PC100 RAM from 64MB to 512MB. Anyone know how I can get Win98 to work?
I have removed everything from the network area of the control panel, because I don't have a network card, and the computer won't be used for going onto the internet. (It doesn't have a modem in it)

Even with no network attached, do you have a network card installed? It is not the network, but the wrong settings (most common unnecessary bindings) that delays the computer. When the computer poses a "message" to a non existant network, device or anything and waits till the time-out, this is a delay and can be a long delay.
When open the network from control panel, what protocols, adapters, bindings and services you see installed?
If you have not a net card, but only the necessary for internet connection, then you must see: 1. Microsoft family logon 2. Client for Microsoft Networks 3. TCP/IP 4. Dial up adapter.
And nothing more. From TCP/IP properties, you must set "disable wins resolution" -- Dimitris Magarakis

Hi Dimitris
Download a copy of BootLog Analyzer # Let it look for delays. The most cases delays are caused by the loading of network or communications protocols you do not need.

Will new micro atx boards fit inside of a hp pavilion 4550z case? I am trying to overhaul my old hp pavilion 4550z with a new os and new motherboard as well as processor. My problem is I am not sure that the micro atx motherboard I plan to get will fit properly in the old hp pavilion 4550z case.
