I get to the menu and everything fine. I select the game I want to play, the screen goes black and then I get snow on the screen and it will continue to flash to a black screen back to snow. My only option is to turn the system off and try again and hope I don't get snow again.

It sounds like your TV is overheating, or some component is failing after a certain amount of time. try plugging your xbox into another TV and playing it for a while to see if this happens again. If it works on the other TV then it is definitely your TV.
Well it might be becuase your ps3 is european. Im no expert on the matter, but when i bought an hdmi cable and hooked it up to my hd compatible tv, i switched to the hd input (which happened to be input4 on my tv) and a message popped up saying that the ps3 has detected hd output, would you like to change settings? and it did it automatically after i hit yes.
I had the same Black Screen problem and I finally have a fix for it!
When using component video cables and a HDTV: Go into the Wii's system settings, under Screen, change TV Resolution to HDTV (480p) instead of Standard TV (480i) and change to Widescreen (16:9) under Widescreen Settings.
