You may need to foward ports and allow the router to talk to your xbox 360. I do not know the ports of the top of my head but when u get the error from your xbox 360 that it cant connect look into where it says ways to solve the problem. It should tell you the ports. Personaly I am wired and its way better. No lag and no problems.

Hope this helps

Having problems setting up my wireless networking adapter

What is the brand and model of your wireless router?

We need to know the settings (SSID, wireless security, security key/code) on the wireless router to match the settings on your xbox wireless adapter.

On your XBOX, go to System, then Network Settings, then select "Edit Settings".

Select the wireless network name or SSID of your wireless router. For the network mode, select Infrastructure. Select the security type if WPA or WEP and enter the Passphrase or WEP key.

Save the settings then select Test Xbox Live Connection.

I hope this works! Please take a moment to leave a comment if you find this solution helpful. Your feedback is important and very much appreciated. Good luck!

I have a persistent red light on the wireless adaptor, but the xbox is not recognising that it is plugged in. There is no option for the xbox to search for a network

Blinking green means initializing, steady green means it's found a wireless access point and connected.

Steady red means it's looking for a wireless network (wireless access point) which means you have to configure your SOHO router with an SSID that's broadcast so the wireless xbox NIC can find it.

I think you may have confused a comment I made - the xbox can be connected to your SOHO router by either a WIRE (ethernet cable) OR Wireless NIC (network interface card). If you're using one, disconnect the other!

If you have wireless enabled on your SOHO (small office home office) router then you should either use WEP or WPA for wireless security WPA-2 is recommended. This means you will have to know the key to attach to the wireless network. If someone else set it up then you will have to ask them for the key / passphrase.

Sounds like the NIC isn't the problem but the attaching to the wireless access point (WAP) is. Try www.xbox.com and search for some support regarding your situation. They have a good how to that details the installation / configuration step by step and it sounds like its one of those steps you're missing, unless I've misunderstood.

Good luck,

The light stays red, won't connect.

If the light on adapter is red it means that it cannot establish a wireless connection.

We need to get the wireless settings on the Belkin router and match those settings to your xbox adapter.

Use a computer to access the setup page of the belkin router. In a web browser's address bar type: 192.168.2.1.

It will prompt you to enter your router password. By default, just leave the password blank.

Once you are on the setup page, go to the wireless tab. Take note of the SSID, Broadcast SSID should be enabled.

Then Under Wireless go to Security. Take note of the Security Mode (WPA or WEP), Passphrase or WEP key.

Now, on your XBOX, go to System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."

Select the SSID. Select Infrastructure for the Network mode. Select the security type if WPA or WEP and enter the Passphrase or WEP key.

Save the settings then select Test Xbox Live Connection.

I hope this works! Please take a moment to leave a comment if you find this solution helpful. Your feedback is important and very much appreciated. Good luck!

How do i set up the wireless connection for the xbox360. i need a WEP key or WPA passphrase

The WEP or WPA key for your local wireless router would be the same as the one you enter into your Xbox. If you don't know that, you should reset it to something you know on the router.

Cant grt xbox360 wireless adapter conected to wireless router on pc down stairs

I assume the wireless router is configured correctly and the PC can connect to the wireless router and the Internet.
The problem could be that the signal is too weak upstairs for the XBox especially if you have a concrete floor between the XBox and the wireless router. Try moving the wireless router around to increase signal strength to the CBox.
The other problem could be the XBox is not configured correctly.
Follow these instructions to configure the XBox.
  1. In the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox and open System Settings.
  2. Select Network Settings, Configure Network.
  3. On the Basic Settings tab, select your wireless settings.
  4. Select the name (SSID) of your wireless network. If your router isn't broadcasting your network's name, select Specify Unlisted Network and enter the name.
  5. If your network has wireless security, enter your WEP or WPA key.
  6. Try to connect to Xbox LIVE again.

I have plugged in a wireless adapter for the 360 but...

A red steady light on the adapter means it is ready to be connected to a wireless network. If it fails to connect then the WPA key is not correct.

WPA automatically changes keys on a frequent basis for security purposes. So you need to take note of the SSID (wireless network name) and the Wireless security settings (WPA and passphrase) from the wireless access point/router.

Once you have the wireless network settings on the access-point/router, go to the System area to enter those settings.

If all settings are correct, exit the System area. Your console should now be connected to your wireless network.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

My wireless has a WPA key and Abox is asking

  1. Plug in the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter to one of the USB ports on the back of your Xbox 360.
  2. Turn on your Xbox 360 and navigate to "My Xbox" and then "System Settings."
  3. Go to "Network Settings" and then "Configure Network."
  4. Select the appropriate settings for the wireless network you will be connecting to on the "Basic Settings" tab.
  5. Enter the name of the SSID of the wireless network you will be connecting to. If the SSID is not broadcast, select "Specify Unlisted Network" and enter in the SSID of the network manually.
  6. Enter in the wireless security key (WEP or WPA) so that your Xbox 360 can access the network.
  7. Select "Test Xbox Live Connection" back on the "Network Settings" screen to verify that your Xbox 360 is now connected to the wireless network and ready for use.
Should work for either WEP or WPA
