If the scanner's 'clicking' sound is louder than usual, plus there's issues with the scanning carriage, it is quite evident that this device requires repair/parts replacement. Please note that I'm highly recommending a certified or trained technician to do such job due to the intricacy of internal parts (not to mention the architecture) of the scanner.
For your convenience, I have included the support site for Lexmark for you to check on the repair options and more information surrounding the product :
Scanner will continue to scan at the same Speed! The problem is in the computer. Check if you have enough disk space, do a 'defrag' on your harddisk, create extra space by deleting unwanted files. IF your processor is slow and if you are scanning in color or converting to PDF while scanning, it may slow down the output.

Change your USB port and Cable and Try. Buy a good quality USB cable, this makes some difference. If even after this the speed is (s)low, check if there is some virus on your Computer or try on a different computer.

This problem usually occurs when the scanner software crashes, or the scanner is turned off in operation, or the computer is shut down before you quit the software, etc.
The K-M driver software gets corrupted.
I use mine with a Mac G3 Tower and OS-X v 10.4.9. What I do is search for all the Konica-Minolta components using OS-X spotlight and then delete them. After reinstalling the K-M driver software and restarting the mac, the scanner should work fine.
