Hello there, I am the Expert that will be helping you today. My name is damnor01.
Welcome to Fixya.
What you want to do to get your printer working again is to clean the ink heads using the maintenance program that came with your printer.
You may clean both the colour and the black ink cartridges. You may need to do this a few times, print a test page between each cleaning cycle. This will get the ink to flow through the printer system. Also leave the printer on for a while so the ink can settle. Ensure that you use original ink cartridges from Kodak as generic cartridges give endless problems.
Make sure they are compatible with your make of printer.
It sounds like you need a new printhead. The Kodak ESP 3 works in two stages, you have a printhead which is what transfers the ink to the paper then you have the ink cartridges. Change the printhead. You can try to clean it also, by removing all the inks. Taking the printhead out and soak it it warm water to dissolve the clog. Sometimes it will work.
Follow www.kodak.com/go/itg and try the step by step solution. If issue persists,Call Kodak @1800 421 6699 and get a new printhead free of cost.....Printhead has gone bad and it is the part in which we install the ink cartridges. It takes the ink out of the cartridges and spit the ink on the papers,...Cheers and Enjoy.
Make sure that you installed the correct ink. It is not enough for it to fit, the numbers on the cartridge have to match those on the cartridges you replaced. You may also have problems with off brand ink that claims to work. Use Kodak ink. Also, many of the Kodak have the ink jet nozzle on the printer, not the cartridge. You can try cleaning in and around the cartridge casing, especially on the copper areas, with an alcohol swab. Then run the cleaning utility on the printer 2 or 3 times.
Your issue with the black ink only is because the print head my be dried up. Witch me that the ink cant flow to the "paper" fast enough. So by time to rollers eject the paper, the ink cant print on the paper. I had the same problem with my Kodak EasyShare 5300 All-In-One. So I contacted Kodak and they are sending me a new one. Try doing the same. Contact your manufacture and ask them..... :)
Call this number. I had the same problem, and Kodak is replacing my print head FREE of charge. As the printers in the 5000 series are still under warranty. 1 800 421 6699
(To remove your print head: first remove the color ink cartridge. there is a button of sorts under a small ledge just above the picture of the finger used for installation. Press FIRMLY here, up towards the ceiling. The print head will come out. To reinstall, just put back in and press again firmly on the pic of the finger till it snaps.)
If you get the same quality of print, you need a new head.
K...Trust the solution. Try these steps. Open the printer, remove the ink and remove the printhead (See User's guide). Reseat the printhead and the ink cartridges. The printer will come up with an error message that requires calibration. Do the calibration and scan the sheet that prints right after by pushing the start button. In the menu options, clean the printhead. Do one basic and one deep. Print a demo sheet (another menu option) to see if the quality has gotten better. If it has not call Kodak AiO Tech support. You will need a replacement printhead.
