I assume your System Restore, in System Properties, System Protection isn't enabled/on. Use this procedure to turn on: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Turn-System-Restore-on-or-off for future use. Also you may want to do a Disk Clean to free-up disk space for future System Restore space, if necessary. Use CCLEANER freeware at: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ This freeware program has some very useful tools, Look at TOOLS, STARTUP, to disable ALL unnessary startup programs to speedup starts and running of your machine.

First do a virus scan and delete or quarantine any malware that comes up in the final results of the scan. Reboot the computer and see if it is running normally. If the computer is still not functioning properly you can use "Windows System Restore" to restore your computer's software configuration to an earlier date when it was functioning properly. The "System Restore" program is found under Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

The factory settings are normally stored on a ghost (hidden) drive on your pc.
To view this folder, go into the tools menu and select folder options and then into the view tab.
Once there select the option to show hidden files, folders and drives.
This should reveal where your backup files are.
