Are you trying to connect your laptop through a wireless connection or a wired connection? Is the router connected to the DSL/Cable modem properly through a CAT5 (Ethernet) cable? If it is not connected to the modem properly it could mean that the router can't access the Internet. You might also check to see how many computers your modem can support. I've had a modem once that would only allow one computer and therefore a router didn't work with the modem.

I hope you get your issue resolved. :-)

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.

Just moved to Canada and hooked my desk top up. i have internet through cable not phone line. i have internet with a cable from linksys to desk top but i have no wireless to laptops. i think i need to...

You need to configure the Linksys with the wireless settings, ie. the SSID and encryption. then you need to configure the wireless card in laptop with these router's wireless settings so it can connect with the wireless router.
Open a browser on your computer and type in the Linksys configuration URL.
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
then go to the wireless section and configure the SSID and encryption. I suggest you use WPA or WPA2 these are much stronger encryption than the older WEP encrtption.

I was installing the Linksys router and I hooked

Replace your cat 5 cable please. I believe you have a bad cable end. DO NOT DISCARD THE CABLE UNTIL PROVEN FAULTY.

It is also possible you have a faulty port on the router. Though rare, it does happen. Drove me nuts one evening. It was a short trip.

I have lots of experience with cables having 25 computers on 5 networks in my home. Why? Darn good question my friend. I have made 99% of my cables.

Thanks for posting at FixYa.com

KEEP GETTING ERROR 321 WHEN SETTING UP LINKSYS WRT54GS ROUTER

Router setup
If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Wireless router

The problem is the Linksys wireless router is not properly configured. Try downloading the automatic configuration file which can be accessed from the Linksys site for your specific model wireless router.

Hope this helps you.

Software won't install, keeps getting a #322 error.

Hi -

Reset you Linksys to factory default,
press and hold the reset button for a few seconds, at the rear.

Then, connect via a cable (NOT WIRELESS, use your perent computer) and set your security again.
Remember admin password :-)
then set the security on your other computer with the same as the router

Then, I recommend downloading the latest firmware and install that.
Download the latest firmware from here:
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Download_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1115417109974&packedargs=sku%3D1121874580098&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper
Need additional help write a comment, and I´ll be back :-)
Other vice, vote "FixYa" if this was sufficient.
