Need HELP... HP iPAQ Navigation System GPS software hanging my pocketpc

By Rogers - usenet poster

Hi All,

I just purchased the HP iPAQ Navigation System GPS (with the Bluetooth GPS
receiver) and I'm having some difficulty getting the navigation to work.
HP/Navteq support is unable to help so I thought I'd ask here to see if
anyone else has overcome this problem...

PocketPC = iPAQ h6315 (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GSM/GPRS)
iPAQ Nav Sys = April 2004 version (latest version according to HP/Navteq
support)
Desktop OS = Windows 2000

I installed the application to the default application directory on my
PocketPC (\Program Files\) and installed the maps (53mb) on a SD card.

I go into Destinations and select an address and press the NAV button then
the 'wait' clock pops up and never goes away until I soft-reset the device.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dan.

-   I have the Bluetooth Navigation System on iPAQ 2795. I cannot move beyond the opening screen that is the warning about not looking at device while driving. I have to reset to get away from the screen and it happens each time. I removed and re-installed without success?

Hi Darren,

I'll give it a try and let you know how it works out... FYI... I've also
tried a Sandisk 128mb SD card with the same result (Made in Taiwan).

They're (Lexar) not normally a problem. Would you be able to install a
small local map to the internal RAM and remove the Lexar card. If so, test
with this config and see if the problems persist, if they do not then it
would suggest the card is the cause, a re-format (of the card) my resolve
things if that is the case.

Pardon? Have you used any of the current crop of PPC GPS apps? They are
excellent and aside from the occasionally issue with SD card compatability
are very stable.

Forgive me for even posting a reply...
The pocket-pc platform is "ok" as long as you don't expect stability
when using anything but the pre-installed and/or supplied
applications. It has been my experience that the introduction of any
"3rd party" application to a pocket-pc device produces an unstable
system. (This includes anything not expressly written by Microsoft and
bundled with the basic operating system.)
I would also recommend very strongly that you not rely on a pocket-pc
based GPS solution if you are doing anything but "messing around"...
ie; don't bet your assets on that ppc/gps thing.
All I can offer that could even remotely be considered constructive is
a wish of the best of luck with it.
