Problem for Pioneer DVD 500M (DVD-500M) Internal DVD Drive

Installing game (Max Payne 2) on a slave drive

By Putty - usenet poster

" "
Folks,
I just tried to install a game on my new slave IE HD. Is there any
reason why I cant?

During the install, it asks me to install it to a default folder within the
C: (master) drive, but I redirected it to a similarly named directory on my
new D: (slave) drive. It all seemed to install OK, writing the files
successfully. But (the game is the new Max Payne 2 BTW) it wont run, the
.exe is running in task manager, but the game wont start. I know this might
be a game problem/bug, but I just wanted to check that you are actually
allowed to install games on a 2nd drive (silly question maybe, but I
genuinely don't know).

Temor,

I make no judgements about your work-around. I'm just happy to hear you
were able to work-around the issue.

You might offer some help for future news-group posters by starting a thread
listing that MP2 has problems with your brand and model of drive. Maybe
other people with that brand and model are experiencing the same issues.

Thanks Nick,
I did try the1.01 patch for MP2, but no different.
Checking some of the game forums it would suggest that the problem lies with
the CD-copy protection code and its unfriendliness? with some of the CDROMS
and DVDROMs firmware out there (dont know how true that is tho'). But I got
around the problem by installing a no-cd crack for the game (not the best
way, but at least it got me around my problem). Just in case you are
wondering, I did BUY the game, I just didn't want a set of $50 coasters !!!!
Hence my mail.

temor

But if it aids you in resolving the problem for others I would be more than
happy to include the DxDiag output

Temor,

If the game allows you to install to a different drive, it should run just
fine from that drive. Since you see the exe running in Task Manager, then
you can actually run the game, but something else is causing it to hang
before you can actually see the window it's supposed to run in.

Have you installed the latest patch for the game? (If not, you can get the
patch from -
#)

If you have the patch already, or you install the patch and still cannot get
Max Payne 2 to run, please reply with a copy of your DXDiag text and we'll
see if we can help you to resolve your issue.

To reply with a dxdiag text:
Click on Start - When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window appears you will see tabs across the
top click each tab and run the diagnostic tests on each. Then click the
'Save All Information' button, which will create a text file on your system
where you specify, as in My Documents or Desktop. Open that text file, copy
the contents and paste it to a reply.
