Question about Samsung Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a Samsung 50" model HLN5065W. It is about 3 years old. The red color no longer displays - just yellow, green, and blue. I hear no unusual noises that would suggest the color wheel is bad. The quality of the picture seems okay, other than the color problem.

Right now, I would say the color wheel is bad....  The CRT would not cause this kind of problem....  I am no expert but your answer is incomplete.  I want to fix the problem and for $17.99, I would expect more....

Okay, I will reexamine what you have suggested. I still think it is the color wheel rather than the crt.

If Qualified You May Wanna Check All The Connections Inside The Television To Make Sure All The Cables Are Tightly Secured. Make Sure You Unplug The Unit And Attempt To Restore Factory Defaults Just To Make Sure Its Not A Hardware Setting That Has Been Adjusted. But For It To Be The Color Wheel The Symptoms You Describe Aren't Of The Color Wheel Going Bad. The Color Wheel Or Engine Going Bad Is Usually Indicated By A Blurred Or 3d Look.
I Hope This Helps.
Sincerely,
Michael Scott

This is not a Crts model.

When the color wheel is bad you get poor color or areas with very bright colors, if you have faded red, the color wheel can be damaged only on the red area , but that is unusual.

if you have no red color start checking the cble that connects to the receiver.
If it is not that it can be a problem on DMD board.

Your TV is a DLP one lamp does it all, not like the old projection TVs with the Red, Green & Blue CRTs. Your TV may have a bad light engine or lose cable connections.

Good luck

The only time I have had issues like this was because of the Component Cables not being in the right position (the Red and Blue connections switched), or a bad Component Cable where the Blue Connection is not receiving a signal. Swap out the cable to be sure and double check that it is properly installed. Green to Green, Red to Red , Blue to Blue.
Hope this helps,

Please recheck component connections in both units and make sure to hook up them according to corresponding colors like blue to blue, red to red and orange to orange.

DLP Colors Are Off - Picture Is Mostly Blue and Yellow

Sounds like you've lost your red video signal (chroma) somewhere along the line. This tv has a 3 board video path. Analog main pcb --->Digital main pcb --->DMD pcb. The analog has all your inputs on it, except DVI and RGB which go straight into the digital board. The digital scales (upconverts) the signal to HD (1080 or native) and sends it to the DMD or light engine. See which inputs are distorted. If only DVI is clean then you problem is the analog board. If you menu and everything is distorted then suspect the DMD board. If you run component or DVI through the resolutions (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) you can get an idea between the digital board and dmd. The menu is generated on the digital board. Somewhere red is getting lost.

Found out I have extended warranty and I am awaiting service company to respond in order to conduct service to find the problem.

Thank You
