Question about Ace Hardware ML250TPA Infra-Red Wall Mounted Panel Heater

1 Answer

My desa vent free propane heater's pilot light starts fine but when the thermostat kicks in it looks like the pilot flame gets sucked up into the heating flame. Once the heater shuts of the pilot light is out. Very frustrating in the greenhouse. Any idea? Thanks

I will try that, even though the heater is basically brand new, purchased in October. Can it get dirty that quickly? Thank you!

I would turn your has off. Then take apart your pilot gas line, and clean out where the gas come out. There is a very small hole there that will get dirty.

No it should not get dirty that fast. I was unaware that the unit was new.

Your DESA/Vanguard Vent-free, Blue Flame Heater has a pilot assembly that is equipped with and Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) . When this becomes clogged with dust, lint, spider web, etc, the pilot may light and burn for a few minutes, but will soon shut down. As the ODS senses that there is not enough oxygen for safe combustion. This mimics a faulty thermocouple. A good indication that the pilot is dirty, is when the pilot flame curls upward and looses contact with the thermocouple. Cleaning the pilot and it's ODS with canned air and a straw nozzle (like you clean your compute with) should solve the problem.

To further help you, I have included a link to the Owner's Manual for your Model, as well as a link to how to clean the pilot & ODS

Pilot light too big, how do we adjust pilot light on a Vanguard KV1800?

There is no adjustment for a Pilot Flame's Length on a Vent-free Gas Appliance. However, if you're using Natural Gas and it's a Natural Gas Heater, the normal length of the pilot flame is 2 to 2 1/2".
If it's a Propane Gas Heater and the pilot flame is as long as previously stated, you probably have a pressure problem from your tank. Contact your Propane provider to have them check the pressure on their tank regulator.

My propane fireplace pilot light wont stay lighted help

Most gas valves have a flame sensor, which is a metal bulb at the end of a wire. The pilot light heats this bulb, and the valve stays open because there's a flame. If the flame has been out, you'll need to hold down the pilot light button for as much as two minutes after lighting the flame to allow the flame to heat the flame sensor up enough to keep supplying gas when you release the button.

Remove the small copper colores tubing going from the gas valve to the pilot assembly. Take it to a good hardware store that sells heaters and ask them for a new one.It is called a thermocouple.

Lighting a glo warm heater

Is this a new heater or have you had it awhile? If new, yuo may have air in the line that will need to be bled out. The heater has a gas valve with a pilot setting on it. Make sure the gas is turned on. Turn the knob to the pilot setting and depress the handle. Holding it down and at the same time, press down on the red button that sparks. You may have to repeat this a few times. Once the pilot lights, continue to hold down on the pilot knob for about 30 seconds. When uou release the knob, the flame should stay o. If it does not, replace the thermocouple. Once the pilot flame is steady, turn the gas valve knob to on.
