SOURCE: I read the entry about the starter rope but I can

have to turn the pully in same direction as you would pull the rope to get it to lock and then keep turning it for about 6-8 turns to put tension on it then put the rope on it.

Needing to see diagrahm of belts and pullies to fix tiller

tensioner pulleys run on the back of the v belts
most tillers move forward by the action of the tillers bur occasionally they can be belt driven
that may be the spare pulley if you have a pulley on the axle
otherwise run the belts direct to the tillers with the tensioner pulleys running on the back
would need to know make , model and year to get a diagram of the belts

How do i replace pull cord on mtd 31cc tiller

Remove your recoil housing. Turn the inside to see if spring is broken. If spring is good wind it up as tight as it will go without forcing it. Once you have it wound all the way then back it off one turn or until the eyelet meets where the rope comes out. tie a knot in one end and feed through both holes. Pull the rope through till the knot is tight then attatch your handle. Once the handle is in place slowly let the rope wind itself in. pull a few times to make sure your knot is holding and reinstall on engine

Replacement Idler pulley for Gilson Compact Tiller Model 51095

Is this a press on pully or does it have a thru bolt? if press on is it a splt pully .If it is a split pully it should have 2 threaded holes in the hub where you screw in the back out bolts. These kinda act like a built in gear puller to facliitate removal. Its a easy pleasy 5 minute job.

If it has rivets holding it . You'll be better off ordering a new pull starter assembly three bolts hold it on simply remove 3 bolts put new one on reboot it on and done . those housings have a tightly wound coil spring. I've yet to see one get put back on tight enough.

Spring keeps breaking on mower deck belt tighener.

I would try getting a stonger spring but the same length as the orriginal spring. The spring still needs to have enough tension to pull the pully back, if you get one that dosn't have as much tension it wont pull the pully tight enought.

Drive belt falls off mower

You need to inspect the pullies holding the belt, and the bearings that run the pullies. If they are bad they will jump the belt.

Bought a new part to hold the starter cord for my tiller

I don't know exactly what you have there, but starters in general work pretty much the same. What you have to do with any starter when you replace the rope is to first wind the spring with the pulley. Turn the pulley in the direction it would be turning if you were pulling the rope. When it's wound tight, back off to align the rope hole in the cover and the pulley. Stick the rope through from the outside through the cover and pulley and tie a knot. Then let the spring tension pull the rope into the starter. Hope that helps. Dwain

How do you take the recoil off to replace rhe

all you have to do just to replace the rope is take the starter cover off with three bolts do not take the pully off just turn the pully to the left till it turns no more line up the hole on the pully to the hole on the cover put the string in still holding the pully from turning tie a knot then let go the pully careful not to let the other end of the string go back in the cover tie the handle on then let go
