Be sure the camera is plugged into the USB port before
running the program. As you run the program, write down the info about the
camera so you will know what you have . Double click on this site and download the Camera Diagnostic Tool
and run it to check out your camera and/or problem. http://www.download32.com/webcam-diagnostics-d35065.html
I ran the diagnostic on my camera to give you an idea how
well it works.
Give it a try. Hope this helps.Bud

Hi Maria, Most camera's will have the label on the bottom to give you the information. If this is missing, you could use Windows update and see if there is a download for generic webcam drivers for your Operating System Joe
webcams are not generic, they require a particular driver from the manufacturer (which should have been supplied with the webcam).
If you can read off the webcam its type or name you can search for the appropriate driver on the internet.
1. Go to: http://www.intextechnologies.com/webpages/download-driver.aspx 2. Under the "Download Drivers" section, click "PC Web Cam". 3. Click "Night Vision 500K (IT-305WC)" 4. Click "Win XP/Vista". This will start the download of your web cam's drivers.
Many web cam manufacturers have the most updated drivers available for download from their website. Try to identify the make and model if possible, usually imprinted on a label on the bottom of back of webcam. Download and run the driver installer before plugging in the webcam.
If not, you can try using the windows update function to try to install a generic driver that might be compatible with your web cam. Plug in the webcam and allow the windows installer to check the internet for drivers.
You wont have all the applications that might be on the full installation CD, but you should be able to use the webcam for instant messaging and other general apps that are cam compatible.
If the Web cam was Generic, or even Brand name, and it came with a Drivers disc (this would mean that it is not plug and play), try completely uninstalling the Driver software for the web cam. After the uninstall has finished, reinstall the drivers, taking extra care to follow ALL on screen instructions to the T. If at some point there were other web cams, and the drivers that belonged to those cams installed on the computer, be sure to fully uninstall all of them. Only use the cam and the drivers that you are attempting to install. After all of that, the cam should work just fine.
If for some reason the cam does not work after reinstalling the drivers, try a different brand of web cam. The computer that the drivers are attempting to operate on may not be adequate to support those drivers. If that's the case, try a generic, cheaper web cam as I said.
Also: While powering up the cam, don't run anything unnecessary.
Best to start from scratch, remove your driver if it's installed from Add/Remove programmes.
Make sure your cam is dissconnected and try the driver from this site:- http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=349&lang=eng
Install driver and then connect camera when prompted.
Although I don't know what you mean by "won't accept any file name"; make sure that you install correct driver for your operating system.
