Question about Kenmore 25614 / 25615 Progressive Bagged Canister Vacuum

Unit is 3 years old and isn't picking up like it used to. Have to vacume over the same spot several time to get everything up and then it doesn't do it well.

Unit seems to have good suction when holding the hose to my hand but I have to make repeated passes over the same area to pick up everything. The brush spins and it looks in good condition. I'm wondering if there is a refervishing kit so I could rebuild the unit?

OK. I'm not familiar with this particular vacuum, but I think you've said enough for me to give you some clues. Suction is one thing - air flow is another. If you've got good suction against your hand, then the problem is low air flow, and that's almost certainly caused by a partial blockage somewhere.
Because I don't know the details of this machine I can't guide you on where to look, but I'll bet that if you have a good look through the pipework you'll find something that shouldn't be there! If you can't find anything, and if you've got a second vacuum, you can sometimes dislodge a blockage by sucking air in the reverse direction through the problem machine.
Good luck! And please remember to rate this response. Thanks.

Have suction in the wand but not through bottom?what can cause this?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC18. If the machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual through the cleaner head, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to make sure everything is correct with your machine:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc18/dc18-all-floors/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/wand-suction

You may also want to give the filter a wash - in normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing it.

I hope this helps - if you'd like any further assistance, please call our customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298, or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Vacum cleaner has poor suction

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear your DC08 isn't picking up as well as usual. This may be due to a blockage in the floor tool, wand or hose, and the filter may also need a wash.

To locate and remove any blockages in the machine, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc08/dc08-standard/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/check-the-floor-tool

In normal use, the filter needs to be washed at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing it.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call our customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

I received this vacuum as a gift. The person set it up for me. However from the time I received it just did not pick up any dust. Now I see online that it got really good reviews. I'm convinced that it was...

That should be a direct link to the owners manual, however there are no instructions on how to assemble. It should be pretty easy tho. On this model the only thing that you had to do was insert 2 or 3 screws into the handle to assemble.

Something to check tho is the top filter on the front. Sometimes the clear plastic casing comes apart from the yellow coloured housing and you will loose your suction there.

another spot to check is the dust cup itself. Make sure that the cup is in the proper place, and has the yellow cap or lid on the cup there. That too will cause a loss of suction.

The hose should have great suction if both of those are ok. If it is not picking up off the floor, the hose should be in the correct spot on the back to connect to the hose that continues down and under the machine.

the final possibility is that maybe the belt needs to be replaced. I know it is not that old, but belts can be old and stale even from the store shelf. A belt should be replaced once a year under normal use, and twice a year for my pet lovers.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Jhe4576. I own a Genie SV125Q, 5 gallon wet/dry

Where did you buy this unit from? Go back there and ask if they have filters for yours. Otherwise look in the Yellow Pages for vacume cleaner repair shops. Sometimes they have all kinds of filters for all kinds of vacumes. You can try places like Wal Mart. What you want to look for are filters that will work with your unit. The foam filter you refer to is called a pre-filter. It traps the bigger particles so they won't damage your paper filter or clog it up especially if it's wet stuff you're picking up. You can remove that foam filter and gently wash it out in the sink with a mild dishwashing liquid and warm water. And even sometimes if you have time you can wash a paper filter out by hosing it out from the inside, with just a gently rinsing on the outside. Don't use any solvents on it just soap and water. And don't use high pressure either, as it will destroy the paper. I have cleaned my paper filters several times before I finally had to replace them. You can also look at places like Lowe's. They carry shop vacs and a whole assortment of attachments as well.

Vacuum working perfectly and everything stopped. Went to the utility room and found a plastic bag on top of the equipment. Tried the reset button, etc. nothing works.

sounds like a bad relay in the tank just a simple repair but should be done by a vacuum tech or electrician. Could be a motor is nothing is starting at all, but not as likely.

No. I have 3 women and 2 dogs under my roof and have the same problem. My wife uses a Eureka vacuum that cost $140.00 and it seems to handle this better than our old Kerby.

We take a broom and swiffer and collect what hair we can from the bathroom areas, etc, before sweeping to avoid this problem.

Spotbot is leaking...

Mine constantly leaked as well but I found that if I remove the container will the solution in it after every use it doesn't leak anymore. I store my container (upright - nozzle face up) under the sink with my other cleaning products and when I need to use the machine I pull it back out, pop it in and clean.
