I experienced this same problem on a friend's AT&T 2WIRE 2701HG-B router. The primary computer used WinXP,sp3; I added a laptop, WinXP,sp3 and a Macbook Pro w/ Leo OS v11, successfully.

How to resolve the issue (rather, how I resolved this issue):

From the desktop computer, connected to 2WIRE:

1) Open a browser and type http://gateway.2wire.net or http://192.168.1.254. This site will automatically detect your settings and provide the necessary info., required to set up your wireless network.

NOTE: NTWK information/settings for THIS router can NOT be retrieved via traditional methods. Ignore all other information that assigns a name to your network and/or password. Follow only this wizard, for success in setting up your wireless connection.

2) Verify that your Firewall and System settings are correct and up-to-date. If not, update your software by pressing the link on the right.

3) Click the Home Networking tab (at top of page):

Locate @ the right of your screen, "Status at a Glance".
Under "Home Network", verify:
"Ethernet = x"; (where x = $1)
"Wireless = 0" (ZERO IS OKAY!)

("Zero" will change to "1, 2, 3, etc.," upon successful connection of ea. new wireless device(s) added to the NTWK).

* Once a new wireless device is initially and successfully connected to the NTWK, the LCD wireless indicator of the router will illuminate green.

4) Under "Wireless Settings":

NOTE, the network name. This is the name (of Network) that you will use to connect your wireless device(s).

The default password is the 10-digit number [in brackets] displayed on the sticker, located on the bottom of the router (directly above the UPC code, below the SN).

5) Click "Edit Settings":

In the DEVICE YOU ARE ADDING, click or type in the name of NTWK, as stated under "Wireless Settings". Next, type in the 64-bit WEP password (10-digit number displayed on the sticker, located on the bottom of the 2WIRE router).

6) Click "Verify your Home Network".

Verify the wireless device you added is displayed and has been added to the NTWK.
The Ethernet setting should still remain = 1 (or however many devices are connected to the INET via wire) and Wireless should = 1 (or more, if +1 device has been added).
NOW, the wireless LED shall be glowing the same pretty green, as all the other indicators on the router! You are now connected. Congratulations!

Wireless radio on Lenovo Y510 turned off even though the slider switch is switched on and lights up. How can I turn on wireless radio?

Hi There and Welcome to Fixya!

Another way to turn on the wireless radio on your Lenovo Y510 is to press and hold the "Fn" key, then simultaneously press the "F5" key.

This is an alternative way to switch the wireless antenna on or off without using the physical WIFI switch.

Hope this helps,

Thank you for using FixYa.

Unplugged my router. I plugged it back in and it was no longer broadcasting signal. Wireless light is not lit. Tried unplugging again and did a hard reset and is still not showing up on my connections even...

Please try opening the setup page of the router from web browser http://192.168.1.1 and username is blank and password is admin then go to wireless settings and there you will find option to turn the wireless on once the wireless is ON on that page save the settings and then close that page, switch off and switch on the router the wireless light should come on.
Also even after that if you are not able to get wireless light on try changing the wireless channel used, try using channel 1, 9 and 11 as they are interference free

Please let me know if this will help

How can i turn the wireless on? the led for wireless is off?i cant find any switch except for the reset.

The wireless part of a router (AP = Access Point) is normally "switched" on or off by way of a setting in the routers configuration - check your owners manual on how to do this. There is no physical switch as such.

Also, the wireless light only lights when a wireless device has established a wireless connection to the AP. Even though the AP maybe enabled and working, until a wireless device connects, the light remains unlit.

I dont know this exact model of router so cant give specifics on how to set it up, but hopefully if you can find your manual, this gives you a starting point.

How to turn on wireless

Many laptops have a switch on the case that is for turning on the wireless function. In fact, some even have a light that goes on indicating that the wireless is working. Look for that switch on the front or side of your case,

Another way wireless is turned on or off is by a combination of keystrokes using the Fn key (lower left side of the keyboard) and one of the special function keys at the top of the keyboard. This key is usually identified by an icon representing a radio tower. By pressing this combination, the wireless function will be turned on or off.

Hope this helps.

Try running system restore to factory default there must have been a missing driver during some un-needed updates.

Restart system holding down the f11 key till you hear a beep. Dont forget to backup your documents.

Wireless access

There should be a switch on the very front and bottom of your computer that slides back and forth, enabling or disabling the wireless. If this is set in the on position, you can press FN (next to CTRL) and F5 and turn the wireless on or off from there as well.
Even if the physical switch is set to ON, the settings when pressing FN+F5 may be off.

My wireless system on my laptop is off how can I turn it on? No wireless found in range! Make sure your wireless switch is on how can I put the switch on?

Some laptops have a switch in front next to the wireless light or on the side.

Some laptops use an F key (my toshiba is F8) so to turn on the wireless I would have to turn the switch on in front and then "toggle" the Wireless on by pressing the FN and the F8 keys.
