Error U041 is strictly a low ink error message, so it's strange that replacing the ink would not resolve it. Make sure the ink cartridges are inserted properly and the protective tape has been removed from the cartridge. If not, there might be an issue with the ink cartridges not being locked in place.
You can try removing the cartridge and cleaning the contacts with some rubbing alcohol or water whichever cleans the ink best. Dry the contacts and then reinsert the cartridge. Also check and clean the contacts where the ink cartridge sits in the printer.

Some of Epson's cartridges went bad that way. It may be a bad cartridge. Get a new one, pull that one out and see what happens. If it works, call Epson for a refund. They had a class action suit for that type of thing, they lost and paid off. I would think they will help you right away.
I have a canon mp510 pixma same message U043 and a u150 fault. I cant see any chip to replace and have replaced my original cartridges with a non branded cheaper type, this might be why. Does this make a difference or is this the same problem occurring with replacement canon cartridges as well.
Dont want to buy genuine ones if its not going to make any difference.
