Can set up Windows XP to show hidden files/folders

I do not have a "folder options" folder under control panel and under "tools" there is not a folder options choice. How do I set up folders to show hidden files/folders

Go to controal panal in start then folder options then the view tab
You will have a option to view all hiden folders xp by default will have this turned off Thanx for using Fixya

    try this LINK this is what it is saying...

    open run in satrt type regedit

    Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer In the NofolderOptions, right click on the file and select “Modify


    Put the value as 0 and click on « OK » to reactivate Folder Options

    Close the registry and restart your computer to save all settings

To Enable showing of hidden folders and files. fist open my computer and then go to "Tools" then "Folder Options". Then click on the "View" tab, and under "Hidden Files and Folders", click "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

My C drive shows 29 GB full but when I check my folders it only adds up to 7 GB! Can you help to find the rest?


open command prompt
type the code exactly as written
cd/ (press enter)
dir /a:h (press enter)

If it shows two files like hiberfil.sys and/or pagefil.sys do lemme know
There is nothing to worry it happens some times. I will give you the cure if the same.

How can i view hidden files in windows xp?


Kindly follow the following steps to view your hidden files in your PC...

1. Double click & Open the 'Windows Explorer / My Computer'

2. From the file menu bar select 'Tools'

3. Select 'Folder Options'

4. Select the 'View' Tab on the Option Window

5. In that tab you will find 'Hidden Files & Folders' with a folder icon

6. Select the 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' by selecting the radio button.

7. Then select 'Apply'

Now you will be able to view the hidden files & folders in your system. I have enclosed the screen shots for your better reference.

I AM TRYING TO OPEN HIDDEN FILES BUT THEY ARE NOT ARE NOT BEING SHOWED


Control Panel -> Folder Options -> double click it -> View tab -> Advanced Settings -> look for "Hidden Files and Folders" -> select option "Show hidden files, folders and drives" -> Click OK
That's it.

Elaborate a little more .You can transfer mails from outlook to windows live xp .Follow the steps given below.
  1. The folder that contains the Outlook Express messages is marked as a hidden folder in Windows. To view this hidden folder, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options. Click the View tab, and under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
  2. Locate the folder named Outlook Express. In Windows XP, this folder is located here by default: C:Documents and Settingsyour user nameLocal SettingsApplication DataIdentities{your Windows user identity number}MicrosoftOutlook Express.
  3. Copy the Outlook Express folder and all its contents to the Documents folder on the computer running Windows Vista.(You can store this copy of the Outlook Express folder in a locationother than the Documents folder, as long as you remember where to findit.)

Try the following:

1. Enable Hidden Files and Folders:
1. A. Windows XP :
1. a.i. Click on “Start”, click “My Computer”
1. a.ii. On the “Tools” menu, click on “folder options”.
1.a.iii. On the “view” tab, locate “Advanced settings” and then follow these steps:
Check the option “Show Hidden files and folders”
Clear the option, “Hide protected operating system files check box”.
Clear the option, “Hide file extensions for know file types check box”.
1. a.iv. Click ok and close the window.
1.B. Windows Vista :
1.b.i. Click on “Start”, click “My Computer”
1.b.ii. In the Explorer window, click “Organize”
1.b.iii. Choose “Folder and Search Options”.
1.b.iv. In the folder options window, click on “View” tab
1.b.v. Select the option “Show hidden files and folders” click “ok”.

2. Delete Windows Live Contacts folder :
2. a. Click on “Start”; double click on “My computer”
2. b. Browse to the location
Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Windows logon name>\Local settings\Application Data\Microsoft
Windows Vista:
C:\Users\<Your Windows logon name>\App Data\Local\Microsoft
2. c. Delete “Windows live contacts folder” completely.
Note: Ensure to exit Windows live Messenger from the task manager before deleting Windows live contacts cache folder, otherwise you will get an error prompting that you can’t delete the folder .
2. d. Try signing into Windows Live Messenger.
