Question about Hoover U5396-900 Turbo Power Vacuum

Trying to fix new belt to Hoover Turbo Power vacuum cleaner. Don't see how the belt becomes taut. Fitting it around the roller, there is nowhere to fit the belt to, it just sits loose.

I looked at the user instructions guide online and saw where the 'other end' of the belt should be fitted. It was extremely hard to fit but eventually managed it. Thanks for this solution site. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

The roller brush will not turn. The belt is not

Sometimes the belt can stretch cause the roller to not turn. Also make sure the roller brush is free of any debris.

I have a Hoover Turbo EmPower 4600 and the roller will not turn when we turn on the vacuum. The vacuum is fairly new, and hasn't seen too much use, but now the roller won't turn, so it's not picking...


The beater belt is broken. There are 4 phillips head screws on the outside (2 on top of the base on either side of the upright, and 2 on the front edge on the underside of the base near front edge). and 4 phillips head screws on the inside (holding the guard cover over the beater bar). The belt is about $3 (part number 38528040). Take out the beater bar and put the new belt around it. Then put the other end around the metal bar and stretch the belt taut as you position the beater bar back into its channel slots. Replace the guard and top cover and you should be good to go...

when you released the end to slide the new belt on it allows the tension roller to slide into the wrong position. Remove the top so that you can see the roller, at the left side of the roller mechanism there is a screw, loosen it enough to allow the roller to return to the correct position.

Hoover windtunnel vacuum belt


There are 4 screws that you need to remove. The belt lies between the roller and a pin. With a little effort, you just pull out the roller, and the belt will come loose. When putting the new belt, you need to insert the belt into the pin first and then put the other end of the belt onto the roller. Then pull the roller and put it back into its groove. Voila!

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Knowing the brand name and model number for the vacuum but I can give you a generic way of changing the belt. You 1st need to remove the bottom plate by screws, levers or clips, then you can get @ the belt, if not then you should remove the top cover and then you can get @ the belt. 1st remove the belt from the brushroll and install the new belt on the pulley side of the brushroll and then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bend on the end and then stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track the belt in a straight line so that is running in a straight line. Replace the bottom plate and the belt change should be done. Please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area.

The belt inside my Hoover broke and so we replaced it. But when we did, it now makes an extremely loud noise when turned on. We think it’s the roller to the vacuum because it doesn't make a noise when the roller is not in there. The roller sounds like its hitting something. However, we have pushed and pulled and done everything and all seems to be right. Everything is clicked in and the belt is on correctly and we've followed the manual. How can I fix this problem?

It sounds to me that it is a bad brushroll and could need new bearings or a complete new brushroll depending on if id is metal word or plastic. Some brushrolls are rebuildable and some are not, you can check your owner’s manual to see if it is or is not; or it could be the start of a broken fan blade or bearing in the motor section. But that is the only thing that I can think of that might be wrong. I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It could be that the brushroll could be installed wrong and not in the vacuum correctly. Or the bearings on either end are froze up and not turning. Or the 2 belts that you described need changing, the suggested belt change is every 4 to 6 months for a flat belt change and the extra belts to be stored in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator. If the brushroll id totally shot, then replace it with a new or rebuilt brushroll. please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
