To solve it lift up the scanner unit, with the unit ON, wait for the print head to come in the middle, move it to left.

And, see for any peice of paper jammed inside or near the print head or on extreme end of the unit.

You need to clean print head . The error code occurs when print head is not detected properly.

6A80 error is an APP position error. It means that an error has occurred
when the motor was running during the purging operation on start up.

  • SAM ANDERSON Feb 17, 2009

The error occurs because purge unit got damaged or stuck. Probably you have to pulled apart the printer and check the purge unit.

If unplugging does not reset then the error means app position error.

    I quote solution from:Message error 6A80 - FixYa

"6A80 error is an APP position error caused by the APP motor during the
purging operation as the printer starts up. Canon states that one of
three components is likely to have failed, the sheet feed unit, purge
unit or logic board. All of these will be almost impossible to get as a
spare part. The only thing worth trying is an EEPROM reset that can be
done using the service manual. Get a copy here: http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/4..."

My MX700 canon printer is flashing the on ff green light and the gold alarm light and say error code 6A80. My book says to unplug all power and the plug back in but it is doing the same thing. Thanks for...

The printer head has locked itself and won't move.
I have found a solution for you on the Internet - here are the details :-

I was able to unlock the print head - just with a small piece of foil.
Cut a 3-5cm wide stripe from a sheet of overhead-foil (90um thickness), move it below the print head, and move it to the front and upwards, to the back and upwards. Remove the foil. After switching the printer on - it will work as before and be able to move the head. No need to disassemble the whole MX700!

Solution #1: Press ON/OFF switch to reset the multifunction device

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly.

If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.

1. On the operator panel, press and hold the button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.

2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the button again.

3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.
