Do not get frustrated as PC is a machine after all. poor guy what can it do, it served you nicely for 6 years. :-)

Well, get this reg file, save it on the desktop and double click to run it. Then press Yes when it asks to put info in the registry:

You might need a reboot.

Hi Noreen....

i can help you with part one of your problem...

if you have an e-mail saved to anywhere on your hard-drive, right click on it and choose 'properties'... at the top you will see 'opens with' click on the 'change' button and choose outlook express from the list.

there are a couple of other ways to do this, but that's the most direct, if you have any more questions, let me know...

Outlook Express opens .eml files, and Outlook version 2007 and later should open .eml files. If your .eml file isn't opening in outlook, there may be a problem with your interface and compatibility. Here is an article from the Microsoft team describing how to ensure compatibility is turned on if you're having problems opening an .eml in outlook.

DBX files (files with *.dbx extension) are the files where Outlook Express stores email messages. They can be found in so-called Outlook Express Store Folder named"Inbox.dbx," "Sent Items.dbx," etc. To determine Store Folder locationclick Store Folder button at Tools>Options>Maintenance in OutlookExpress. I'm unable to open .eml attachment in Windows Vista.

Here's some info: E-mail message saved by Microsoft Outlook or other e-mail program; may also contain an e-mail attachment, or file sent with the message. Note: If EML files will not open in Outlook Express, try the following:
  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Select Folder Options from the Tools menu.
  3. Click the File Types tab.
  4. Under Registered file types, select EML Outlook Express Mail Message, then click Advanced.
  5. Click Open, then click Edit.
  6. Type the following line in the "Application used to perform action" box:
    "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" /eml:%1
  7. Click OK twice, then close the window.
EML files may also be opened in Internet Explorer since they are formatted the same as .MHT files; changing the file extension from ".eml" to ".mht" should cause the file to open directly in Internet Explorer.
Hope this helps.

Winmail to Outlook express 6

Outlook Express does not display any message attachments if TNEF-encoded file (winmail.dat) was received. If you are expecting some attachment, but do not see any, it still can be there.

To decode such a message perform the following steps:
  1. Save the whole e-mail message to an *.EML file via File, Save As, or Drag-and-drop.
  2. Open the *.EML file in a text editor such as Wordpad or Notepad.
  3. Locate the line Content-Type: application/ms-tnef;, and change the Content subtype to something else, such as Content-Type: application/zzz;
  4. Locate the line name="winmail.dat" and change to name="winmail.tnf". You may change the winmail part as well, if desired.
  5. Save the *.EML file from the text editor.
  6. Double click the *.EML file from the Windows File Explorer. This will open the message in a mail window and the TNEF attachment should now be available for saving.
  7. Drag the saved attachment into the Winmail Opener program. Decoded attachments will then be there and can be dragged or opened.
