First check the electrical panel to your house. If it's a fuse panel check the fuses. If it's a breaker panel, reset it by flicking it off, then back on (do this even if it looks like it's already on).

If the dryer still doesn't work...

1) Check the door switch by pressing it in and listening for a clicking sound as you do so. If the door switch actuator spring is broken or if there is no click, replace the door switch assembly. This is done by removing the 2 screws under the lint trap screen and lifting the cabinet top. From there you can access the door switch. REMEMBER TO UNPLUG THE DRYER! You can also use a jumper wire on the door switch to verify it's function (unplug the door switch and connect a jumper wire to the 2 wires going to the console.

2) Check for a broken belt by lifting the cabinet top and visually inspecting the belt or by manually turning the drum from the inside (you should feel resistance or hear the motor turning).

3) Unplug the dryer and remove the back panel. On the heater housing remove the wires from the thermal cut-off and high limit thermostat and check the resistance with an ohm meter. If either of them are open (no reading) replace both (they come as a kit).

3) If everything checks out so far it may be the timer.

Good luck!

There is a in line thermal fuse that is in the machine near the heating element that has probably burned out from overheating replace the thermal fuse and check your vent pipe for clogs and or kinks that cause the machine to overheat.

My whirlpool dryer stopped working today and will not put out any heat, do you know what might be the cause? Model # leq9858pwo

Short answer if the dryer drum still runs, but there is no heat: 90% it's one or both of the heating coils. 10% it's the control switch or relay.
If the dryer will still start and the drum will still turn, find instructions for how to test the heating coils. The test for the coils must be done with the dryer UNPLUGGED! It will involve taking a panel off the dryer.

Reach inside and try to turn the drum by hand, it should have some resistance, if it spins free, you may have a broken belt or it fell off. There is a switch on many dryer that is attatched to the motor. If the belt breaks it triggers the switch which disables the motor and heater on the dryer. Also double check that model #, Im not finding anything under that #. thanks Dave www.washermd.com
