    THIS IS A PROBLEM YOU WILL NEED TO READ AND CONSIDER CAREFULLY PLEASE----THIS IS WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR

    ---Updated to the latest version of Direct X
    ---Update video drivers
    ---Created a new user account with full admin rights in the control panel and rebooted the computer and logged in under the new user account and reinstalled.

What I have seen with alot of DVD programs on systems that have problems such as the ones you describe is due to that the Graphics processor allthough fast enough, doesnt have enough dedicated memory to buffer the DVD, so it has to read directly from the DVD while playing, this causes lag and choppiness and often crashing, especially with other programs open.

If you can, try a test out.

Download a movie or video from the internet or wherever, burn it onto a DVD and then also leave the original video file on the computer.

Play the DVD first, does it still do it? Probably.

Play the video file directly off your Hard drive, does it play fine?

If it does then what I mentioned above is correct and you would benefit from a better graphics card, especially since you have a good processor.

Another Gig of RAM would improve things, having 1 gig was alot 7 or 8 years ago, now its like the minimum. Windows will easily use 756MB or RAM just to operate normally.

When you upgrade, its best to upgrade everything or else the data bottlenecks like a congested 4 lane highway that suddenly drops to a 2 lane.

Let me know and good luck

    1. Launch Roxio Easy VHS to DVD.

    2. Go to Help -> Check for Updates

    If you could also update the audio drivers on your system coz with time there could be issues with some dll files.

Hi there, i found your main problem. You will have to install more mem. The mem you currently have installed isn't enough to maintain stability of your OS while roxio is enabled. Your current mem is (Memory: 1024MB RAM). This is not enough available memory for this specific roxio product and, when it dose crank up, you Xp stability will take a massive hit, therefore, causing a major crash or disorientation of system files. I recommend at least 3 gigs of mem if possible to combat and defeat this issue you are experiencing.

    You can actually free up some mem by going into the Windows task manager and, remove/disable unnecessary background software that may be running. this may help but, i suggest you upgrade to at least 3 gigs of mem to increase your stability during capture via/ roxio.

  • Michael Masters
    Michael Masters Feb 17, 2009

    Memory: 1024MB RAM, that is your current memory read out. Windows Xp uses approximately 550mb of what you currently have on your CPU. This leaves you with 474mb available to run roxio. this is your issue. roxio need at least 512mb to run without crashing your entire system. This leads me to believe that you need more memory in order to use roxio software. A simple memory upgrade to about 3 gigs will completely dissolve this issue you are having. Once roxio starts, it sucks all memory that is available from windows itsefl, causing the crash.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

I suspect that you have tried most of the possible options. Here are a couple more to consider and do bear with me and try:

  • in your CMOS/BIOS, ensure that all are set to default;
  • increase size of Recycle Bin;
  • verify size of Swap File is at least double your on-board memory;
  • disable Power Management of all USB hubs;
  • perform a Disk Cleanup;
  • perform chkdsk /f;
  • defrag your hard drive;
  • temporarily disable your antivirus when performing the capture.
Would appreciate a postback/update on any developments. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Thank you for using Fixya.com.

try first to uninstall the program after thar re install.but make sure that the Ratio Disc is inserted.That's where the msi file will be.
If you downloaded the file you can always take the file and extract it to a folder,say on your desktop.That way when the repair looks for the msi file all you have to do is point it at the folder on your desktop.

check if there's somethng change and if it is working again properly.

if it is stll not working maybe your Ratio is already damage and hit some sensitive parts of the unit.

if you try this and still not working. we will go to the last option that is go to the repair shop and ask if they can still fix it..or buy a new one much better.

Hope i answer your question and give you a solution.

thanks,

The windows might be corrupted. You could try editing the windows registry. here are the steps:

In order to delete upper and lower filters you're going to have to edit the registry. The usual cautions apply. If the registry is not edited properly your whole system can crash.

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

last option, you could try installing imgburn. here's the download link: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

If nothing happens, your dvd drive is bad.

Good Luck,

Ryan
