Problems getting pc to recognize ps3 for media share. I've tried both windows media player 11, and the latest version of tversity. changed firewall settings to allow media sharing and file sharing. both ps3 and pc are connected to the same wireless network, but ps3 or any "unknown device" doesn't appear.

My ps3 will pick up my windows media player 11 but wont play the movies i keep getting error code 00000000

your computer must be on to do this. This error code is netowrk connection error. If your computer is on and if you have the latest version of windows media player all you have to do is click on your library tab and then click on media sharing...you'll then see an icon in the box that says "unknown device"...click on allow and your ps3 should be synced up to your computer...Hope this helps. All I want to do is run the playstation thru my computer. Do I have to connect it to the internet to do that?

not internet but your home network.
i'm not sure you can use your playstation through your computer. but you can access your pictures, music, videos that is stored on your computer from your ps3. if you have the latest version of windows media player it makes it easier.

Using Windows Media Player 11 as the server
Open Windows Media Player 11
From the toolbar, select Library then Media Sharing
Check "Share my media"
On the PS3 - Under Video, Photos or Music, select "Scan for media server"
Go back to the PC, and you should see a pop up showing an unknown device trying to connect.
Allow the device, and everything should work.

Cant find a media server on my ps3

make sure your PC and PS3 are networked (you can do this via wireless but using the LAN cable is better if you want to watch films)

You need to set your PC up to be the media server. you will then be able to stream all you music and movies that are on your pc to your PS3

Upgrade your copy of windows media player to 11

once you have done this go to the libary icon. Select sharing and select share with other devices.

Then boot your ps3 up and search for media server

You should see a dialoge box on your telling you a new device want to access. Tell it yes. then you should be able to your view the entire libary.

To access your music etc you always need to make sure media player is running on your pc

Hope this helps.

The free edition of TVersity is the best software for you, it is FREE, and is easy to setup you simply "share with tversity" from the right click menu on your computer and you are set, the ps3 automatically find the media server and allows you to view the files on the ps3

I wanna use a phone line to get the internet and the music off my laptop to connect to my xbox 360...?

Phone line? As in dial up? No dice. You need, atleast, a DSL connection or faster to get Xbox live.

You can use a UPnP media server, such as TVersity to stream music from your laptop to the 360. What's cool about TVersity is that even though the music you want to play is an unsupported format for your Xbox, it will automatically transcode (make it into something the Xbox 360 can play).

If you have a broadband connection (e.g. DSL, Cable, Sat, etc.) you can have Tversity stream your favorite internet radio stream to your Xbox 360.

Download the latest Windows Media Player, Tversity or These other media servers, install, configure (TVersity is fairly easy to setup), and go look for the Tversity folder in your Music section in the NXE menu.

I wrote a how-to on setting up TVersity here if you need help setting it up.

Hope this helps,
Bill

My PS3 doesn't find any media servers. Even though I can browse the internet. What do I need to do to be able to read the media servers? I have a windows vista premium PC and I am new at using a computer.

Hello,

I did many tests with several Media Servers and the following points had often been the Connectiong-Problem to the Media-Server.

  1. Nr. 1 - The Firewall on your PC:
I tested a few Media-Servers and often the problem with the connection of the devices came up from the firewall (in my case ZoneAlarm).
To Solve this i stopped the firewall, started the Media Server (e.g. TVersity or MS MediaPlayer) and then I restarted the firewall again.
After the in 99% of the cases the firewall then asked for creating the rules for the Media-Server Software.

  2. The Router's Port / UPNP-Setting:
Most of the Media-Servers are needing open ports for the Media-Sharing (e.g. TVersity needs an open Port 41952).
If the port is not opened for the connection you will in the best cases have very bad Sharing-Performance but in most cases you will at fact of the Port-Problem not be able to create a connection between the devices.
So you have to open the needed Ports at your Router.

If you don't want to open each needed port by hand you can also (if supported by the router) activate the UPNP-Function (Universal Plug&Play). With this function enabled each device who needs a open port can open the port by itsself (But don't forget the security problem with this function - Even if it is a fine thing it is really danger).

  3. Problem: New MP3's are not shown on a connected Server:
Often it is a good Idea to reboot your Playstation and then reconnect to the MediaServer (New MP3's and so are then refreshed).

  4. The IP-Adresses of the Devices
You have also take to look at the Network-Adresses of the Devices (PS3 & PC). They should be in the same Net-Range (e.g. PS3: 192.168.0.55 & PC: 192.168.0.56).
The most easy way to be sure that this is done is using the DHCP-Function of your Router. The Router then gives each Device a IP from a predefined Range.
Hopefully I could help you to solve your connection problem with one or even more of the Settings/Points above.
I wish you a nice weekend.

With kind regards,
S. Bosch

Can't get Xbox Console to see my pc

THE pc OS is by default configured to NOT share files or folders
xbox will only see shared drives/folder on the pc,
if nothing is shared nothing is accessible.
On the pc
mark a folder as shareable and see whether it becomes available to the xbox

Can't stream media through xbox 360 using WMP11

I had the same problem in Windows XP and I just created a workgroup to share files on the network. Follow these steps if anyone is still having this problem. My gf has vista and must do it automatically but it's just a matter of remembering to establish a workgroup.

To summarize:
- Enable sharing on WMP 11 --> This should adjust windows firewall automatically but be sure to unblock ports for other firewalls, if need be.
- Create a workgroup --> Start...Control Panel....Network setup wizard.
Follow the steps, if you're connectnig through a router, select "this computer connects through a residentail gateway", apply this to any other computers that want to share files on this network, if necessary.
Restart computer to let the workgroup settings take effect and voila...your computer will now be detected.
