Try reconnecting it to a computer in order to make it get some charge, if that does not work, reset it by pressing both the MENU and PLAY buttons simultaneously for a few seconds, this will force it to reset. Resetting does not delete nor alter any settings, it is just a method of making it respond when it is non-responsive.
The first thing I would do is hook it up to iTunes and update the software on the iPod and see if this helps. If it continues to have issues, you can restore it in iTunes. also make sure you are charging the battery up full. the batteries lose some life on half a charge sessions. other than these solutions you may be loooking at a hard ware issue which you won't wanna fix on your own. It would be nice to know if your ipod is from this catagory, because the model you gave doesn't seem to be correct.
Its possible your click wheel has gone bad, what you should try before freaking out is to do a hard reset. To do so hold down the center and menu buttons for 10 seconds. if there is still no response at all, then your clickwheel is fried and you should look online for a new front cover with a new click wheel.

Its unlikley that it was caused by sweat particularly if it was in a case. You may want to check that it isn't a firmware issue by restting it (hold down menu and center buttons - WARNING: wipes memory). If that isn't helping send it in.
That icon means your hold switch is on, follow this link and refrence page 5.
The hold switch is located on the top of your ipod and it slides left & right, this feature allows you put it in your pocket while playing music and you don't have to worry about accidently hitting buttons, it locks all buttons out hence the pad lock icon.
