Are all the installed drives functioning properly?
I've seen this with a bad IDE cable.
It may give a corrupt drive name in bios.

Try removing the battery. It may be the battery is eating all the power that the supply can produce, leaving nothing to run the computer. That could happen with a shorted cell or a completely dead battery. IF the power supply you are using is the correct one for your laptop.

Depending on how long the power was off, your desktop power supply circuit capacitors may have fully discharged during the power outage. This will effect how fast your computer will turn on when you press the power button. Turning off the power by pulling the cord, or a power outage while the computer was on will usually result in a message that Windows was not shut down down properly when you try to restart it. Also make sure your computer isn't plugged into a 'switched' receptacle that's wired to turn on a table lamp etc from a wall switch. It's usually the bottom half of the receptacle that's switched while the top plug is always 'hot' or powered and unswitched in a wall switch controlled recepacle situatation.

Wont switch on

Suggest disconnect from AC power, and remove battery. Push power button 10 times, depressing for 2 seconds each time. This will flush the capacitors.

Then, reconnect AC power and press power button.

Try that. Does it work? If so, you might have a power problem on your motherboard. This is a work around, as repairs can be costly, time consuming, and more of a hassle than their worth.

Try reseating the CPU and also try another power supply. If it still does the same thing then your motherboard would definitely be bad at that point.

My computer wont turn on

Remove the power cable and hold down the power button for about 30 to 60 seconds. plug the power back in and see what happens. If fail look at the back of your computer ans make sure that the fan for the power supply is on. Also make sure that the red switch is set to 115V and not 220V. This is also located in the power supply.

If al has failed your power supply is no longer working and will need to be replaced.

Gateway 500xl pc will not turn on power button is lit up yellow

A LOT of Gateway computers will go into this catatonic state because of a dead battery. The battery is on the motherboard -- it looks like a metal disk about 1" in diamter. Check it or replace it. This applies to laptops too (not the actual laptop battery, the CMOS battery -- a laptop will have one on the motherboard too)

Hope this helps
