Hey,

Enable MAC filtering, this will make the network very secure as only the computers that have been registered with the MAC addresses can connect to the network.

change the wpa key now and then and its good.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

How to secure the router

  • First of all you need to change the default password and put your own password.

  • Many routers today will offer two different security schemes: WEP and WPA. We recommend WPA security, since it is more secure than WEP.
  • The SSID is the name that identifies your wireless router. By default, many routers will use the name of the router as the default SSID, for example, Linksys routers will often use 'Linksys' as the SSID. This is a security risk since it identifies the brand of the router and would let any attacker immediately know what exploits to use.

  • If firewall is available then enable it.
  • Disable SSID broadcast
  • Enable the wireless MAC filter. The Wireless MAC filter feature will only allow a wireless device to connect to your router if the MAC Address has been entered into the filter list.

I cannot find my pin number on my trendnet tew-432brp router

! In your browser write in 192.168.1.1. If theres an option for Configuration Pages, click on that. If it asks you for a username and password they're most likely to be

USERNAME: Admin
PASSWORD: Admin

Look for a system information setting. In that information there should be something about a WEP or a WPA key. It should tell you the key there.

Security key

Use an Ethernet cable to connect your desktop/laptop to one of the LAN ports on the router. Launch Internet Explorer, and connect to the web-server "inside" the router. Run the "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard", to enter an SSID, enable 'WPA' encryption, and to set a security-key or password or pass-phrase.

What password are you referring to; Wireless Security or Web password to access the Router's interface?

If it's the 2nd; Open http://192.168.0.1 (default IP) on your web browser, type username: admin and Password: password. Click on Password then change the default password.

If it's the 1st; Open http://192.168.0.1 (default IP) on your web browser, type username: admin and Password: password (put you correct password if you change the default password).. Click Wireless on the left, Enable Encryption WEP or WPA; for WEP 64 bit you will have to use 10 HEX, meaning 0-9, A-F (e.g. common is phone number). If WPA; password can be set from 8-64 characters long.

How to password protect. My nephew came home from Calif. and was able to just connect his laptop by turning on. It automaticaly loaded. He did not have to enter a password to get on. He said that anyone...

You can access the settings of your wireless router/modem opening your browser (Internet Explorer, for example) and typing in it's IP address, for example:

Linksys's, Trendnet IP is http://192.168.1.1
Netgear and D-Link http://192.168.0.1
Belkin, USRobotics http://192.168.2.1

Then, look for the security settings of the wireless connection and set it to WPA or WPA-PSK, TKIP and make your own passphrase.

Then, double click on your laptop's wireless connection's icon in the system tray and connect manually to the now "secure wireless network" entering the passphrase that you set up in the router.

Still stuck? Look in the wireless router's manual to learn how to secure your connection.

Connect your PC to the router with a cable to one of the LAN connections - Now you need to Log into the setup of the router - to do that open a web browser, use Internet explorer (some routers setup pages do not work correctly with other browsers) In the browser address bar - Enter IP address http://192.168.1.100 to the address location. Now you can goto the wireless section or secruity section and set the type of encyption to WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK etc and then make up your own password. See Page 12 of the User Manual
On the PC Double click on the wireless connection in the system tray (bottom right hand side of screen) and then connect manually to your wireless signal - you will be asked for the password you set in the router.
Now you are connected.

I had a TEW-421 card for a time, and it can not do WPA encryption, only WEP. It's not a driver shortcoming, it's the hardware in the TEW-421 card.

Sorry to tell you it's a dead-end, but at least now you know.

New Vista laptop and problems setting up wireless

Hi,

Chances are the wireless portion of the trendnet software is not compatible with vista. I would uninstall the trendnet software or let windows control the wireless portion of it.

Check to see if you are using any encryption ie. wep or wpa or wpa-tsk. If you are then you will need to enter the network key in windows.

good luck

smeags.
