Re: my laptops contrast is low how do i turn it up?
On most laptops there are function keys that will adjust the brightness and the contrast for your display. they are usually the up down left right arrows and you have to hold down FN and then press one of those corresponding keys and it will adjust the levels.

I have four Dell 2001FP monitors. The unavailable contrast is standard for this monitor when used with digital input (DVI). Make sure your brightness is at 100%.If you want a better result of dynamic range and color, the only effective option is color calibration. I use the inexpensive Huey Pro, available several places, including eBay. Retail is around $100. It something one uses maybe twice a year, takes five minutes to install and use, and the results are notable. I'm a designer, and need excellent color. This is the best solution. Calibrate your laptop as well, and the color should be almost exactly the same between them.
As an alternative, you can use the color settings, select User Preset, and start with something around 40 red 43 green and 37 blue. Adjust proportionately upward until you get what you want.
Another possibility is to use a different connector cable if your laptop has that option, since your monitor an take four different input formats.
Did you use the combination keys of your laptop Fn and either F5, 6, or 7 depends on brand to select internal/external/both? You also need to make sure that the video resolution feeding the monitor is at native resolution setting.
you may need to tell the lap top to display from that screen the new screen has no image or signal so goes to sleep to save power.on your lap top try the (FN) key on your laptop then select a blue picture on the keyboad of to squears one black one blue this will alter the display.OR in windows look at Start>controal pannel>display
Hello, you can try this... Connect your laptop with an desktop monitor throughVGA cable.... then Click on start>> goto control panel>> Double click on Power Option>> Under Power Scheme it should be Poratble /Laptop >> Select Never under System Standbye, Trun off Monitor and Turn off Hard Disk.
Thank you for contacting Fixya support, please rate if that helps!!
Have you used the Fn button on your laptop and changed the video display Icon on the Blue Function keys. You need to change the display wait a few seconds for it to take affect. There are several modes try them all so you know how to use them.
This is a problem with the cable that runs from your laptop to the monitor.
Or the VGA Output socket, on your laptop itself.
1:) Try using the monitor, on a different PC Or Laptop.
2:) Toggle The LCD/VGA Button on the laptop. ( This should change the display Mode )
Sometimes you Have A fn key, on the keyboard. Press fn And LCD/VGA.
3:) Check that there is no damage to the cable from laptop to Monitor.
If none of the above work, it,ll be the monitor itself. faulty panel or invertor board.
If the backlight lights up for a second it's probably fine - It lay odds on the display inverter in the screen. Actually finding parts for anything made by gateway may be difficult, however. They do not sell spare parts. Considering the size of the LCD i bet it would almost exceed the replacement cost of the screen to repair it
