I have a Uniden Bearcat BC350A scanner and the squelch pot has come loose inside. How do I remount it?

The squelch control knob is very loose. I opened it up and the "pot" has come loose from its mounting position. Is there a nut that screws on the outside of the pot to secure it to the face of the scanner or is there some other method. I tried to pull the knob off but it is on very tight and I'm afraid of damaging the pot. Should I continue to try and remove the knob? Any help is appreciated.

SOURCE: I was given a Uniden Bearcat base scanner: model #

You were given a fantastic scanner -- the BC9000XLT was Uniden's top of the line when it was introduced in 1995, and many newer scanners are lacking features and frequency coverage found in the 9000. I have a bc60xlt andno matter how i turn the squelch i get the same hiss what happened

The Bearcat Scanner is neat hand held scanner, Is the scanner programed? Depress the WX for weather and see if the weather channel is available. The squelch knob should be turned clockwise and the noise level should decrease (actually you are decreasing the allowable signals to be received). If you get no response from a know frequency, then the squelch pot may need cleaning or replacement may be in order.....Cost for repair at service shop may not be feasible.

Squelch is open all the time on uniden bc350a scanner

Hi,

Have you turned the squelch knob all the way in both directions, to see if that helps?

If so, then you have to replace that squelch knob unit, with a newbie.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Peter

I have a bearcat scanner BC350A

Units that are stored for a long time may take some time (hours) if caps inside have gone flat from no use.

Uniden also has or had a flat charge for repair of these units--might want to look into that and weigh it versus the cost of a newer scanner.

I have a BC350A. It cuts in and out, and won't broadcast instantly, like when new. Powers up ok and will eventually play ok. tried several diff. locations in the house-no help. tried a second ant. -no...

Try cleaning the knob, it may have dirt in the Volume,Squelch. Spray Tuner cleaner inside knobs (After removing knobs off top, may have to take off cover to do this) Make sure unplugged when cleaning it. Make sure speaker wires soldered good. Change speaker to new one --if possible. Get a outdoor antenna with a Booster for scanners. Try to see if antennuator is on radio..It may be switch that says 0db--10db selector. make sure its on 0db for indoor types...10 db for outdoors. Adjust sqelch until it stops hiss--keep it 2 notches above hiss for weak signals.

The scanner is stuck in open squelch

Rotate the knob counter clockwise to close the squelch. If this does not work, remove the knob by pulling it off gently and make sure the "pot" is turning with the knob. Verify the knob and "pot" are not damaged.

Can't break squelch ? Have Uniden Bearcat hand held scanning radi

Look at the squelch knob. If it is turned fully counterclockwise, it is in "Auto". Turn the knob clockwise to enter the manual mode and adjust the range untill static is heard. Reverse direction until the static is no longer heard.

Scanner squelch

I have a couple suggestions for you. The unit has probably gotten oxidized controls from age. Any thing with rotating contacts over a period of time will get dirty. You need to purchase some contact cleaner (Read info on the can that it is safe for plastics) and flush the squelch and volume controls. You may also have to open the unit and identify what they call 'pots' or little trimmers to clean and adjust. Set your squelch control at mid range and with an insulated tool turn the pots a little in both directions and return it to original the positon. This will clean the control and when you find the one that effects your squelch it may have drifted and need to be readjusted until you have better control on the front knob.

Won't stop scanning

L16 Disc coil needs adjustment, Audio is slightly off, and improper noise to DC squelch level detect used to stop scan on active channel. Set to an on freq signal like a NOAA weather channel, and useing a non-metallic tool, adjust to best sounding audio, probably less than a half turn either direction. An on freq signal moduated by 1000hertz, connect scope to speaker and adjust for highest undistorted recovered audio would be better if you could.
