The squelch control knob is very loose. I opened it up and the "pot" has come loose from its mounting position. Is there a nut that screws on the outside of the pot to secure it to the face of the scanner or is there some other method. I tried to pull the knob off but it is on very tight and I'm afraid of damaging the pot. Should I continue to try and remove the knob? Any help is appreciated.

This is an internal problem that can only be repaired by a technician familiar with Bearcat scanners. If you live near NJ, call 973-831-5900.

You were given a fantastic scanner -- the BC9000XLT was Uniden's top of the line when it was introduced in 1995, and many newer scanners are lacking features and frequency coverage found in the 9000.
