Question about Kenwood KVT-512 Car DVD Player
I have a refurb KVT512 in my car. On two occassions I have had it lock up on me. Both times it was working fine when I got out of the car, and then when I get back in it doesn't power on. If I press the reset button it come to life, but then I have to reset some (not all) of my settings. Since it is a refurb'd unit, I can't help but wonder if it was RMA'd for this, and maybe the factory just didn't get it to act up, so they turned it back out.
Any help would be appreciated!
I removed my brain from beneath my seat and exposed all wires and connections. I have found that on mine (kvt-815) there were two pinched wires- 1 for a speaker and the other the remote wire. I respliced these sections and tested my radio again. It appears to be working now and stays on again. I'm guessing one of the wires must have been touching something metal under the seat (seat frame) and grounding out. If the unit doesn't power on at all, check the fuse first. Otherwise, I would inspect every wire like I did and maybe you'll find a pinched (grounded) wire. Maybe I just got lucky... but at least it's working again and I don't have to replace the brain! Hope this helps.

SOURCE: touch screen doesn't work.
The password can be entered by setting the arrow buttons, if u know the password, or get kenwood to give their default password and check that the touch screen is not getting grounded, 'cos that's when it goes apparently, dead...sodeep
