Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV250 Digital Camcorder

I need to transfer my 8mm tapes to dvd...

I bought the sony dvdirect. I hooked up my sony handycam digital 8 camcorder using a usb cable according to the directions. However, the dvdirect isn't recognizing that my camcorder is hooked up. It says change the camcorders setting to usb select???? I no longer have the manual and haven't been able to find the info on the internet. Please help. My son's science project is recorded on the camcorder and is due tomorrow. It had to be in dvd format to turn in. (My computer isn't capable of burning dvd's.) That's why I bought the dvdirect.

I assume that it is Sony DCR-TRV250 camcorder.
Go to camera menu and enable USB stream, like what Sony DV Direct says about change usb settings.
You can download user manual by clicking Sony Support.

Easiest way is to get stand alone dvd burner. You could use the Dvdirect from Sony. You plug in the camera into the recorder hit play on the camera then record on the burner. That is the easiest way to transfer tape to dvd. Then your able to put it on your hard drives. Hope this helps.

How can I convert my 8mm tapes to a digital format and save to my hard drive?

If you have DVD Recorder then hook your Video-8 camera in analog AV input and burn a DVD, this will convert analog video/ audio signal of camcorder in digital format and transfer the data on DVD as well. Put that dvd in computer and save it in computer.

I cannot download from camcorder dcr-trv330 to pc.. help It is a Sony Digital 8. I downloaded the USb driver but pc does not recognize it. Is ther any other way to download tapes to PC?or make a DVD

If your PC has DV link port, connect camera via DV link and transfer movie files in computer.
Other way is to hook camera with DVD recorder and burn DVD.
Thanks.

Sony handycam video cassette

To the best of my knowledge 8mm VTR's have not been available for some time now. On the other hand there are plenty of Hi8 cameras and players available after market. eBay is a great source. Keep in mind that Hi8 cameras and decks will also play standard 8mm video tapes.
There are also many video tape transfer services that will transfer your 8mm tapes to DVD or other formats of your choice. Just Google "videotape transfer service"

Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.

only sony really supported 8mm look for any trv model cam on ebay etc and make sure you tapes were hi 8mm-not digital 8-digital 8 won't play on reg 8mm cam-need to get model that supports both formats then-trv480-look at tapes and if they say digital and/or hi 8 they may have been in digital and get the 480 it will work with both types
