Test resistance of the variable resistor ( rf gain) to make sure the pot is not dry use some electrical lube behind the pot to clean internal connections. pot resistance is stamped on the back.
other than that if your receive is week you have most likely a fault in one of the filters or pll

I need to know what to put the frequency at for my subs... they are 2 12" kicker comp's

40 - 45 Htz is the usuall. It really depends on the music you listen to. They are built to handle a little more mid bass. Where they are located, power supplied, direction the subwoofer is facing will all have an effect on what you need to set it at. My suggestion is follow the basic steps in setting up your amp. 1. turn your amp gain all the way down. 2. turn your radio volume to 75% of max. 3. start turning up the gain until you obtain the sound you want. You want to do this so your don't "clip" the sub. Kicker is good, but the comps can only handle so much before they start popping. This will heat up the voice coils quickly and cause them to fail prematurely. Hope this helps.

Cobra cb radio, model 75 wx st, has loud and clear weather radio transmissions but receiver is weak and has loud scratchy pops. Transmitter is unknown as no one has ever answered a call for radio check....

You didn't actually have a "category" for CB radio so I picked the closest thing to it but in no way does it resemble a speaker and sub woofer problem. I did not continue with the query because the CB is in an RV and not colocated with the computer and I decided there was no way for you to diagnose the problem without me knowing more about the system installation. I need to get the RV in to someone who knows CB radios.
