Question about Philips Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder/VCR

Open Question

No power on my Magnavox DVD Recorder/VHS Player model #MWR20V6

This is a remanuafactured item sold by Heartland. I had it for about 3 weeks. I only used it like 3 times to watch some movies and the next time I turned it on it would'nt come on. No power to the unit at all. Just to make sure it was the unit and not the outlet I plugged it in to several other outlets in my home and still no power at all. I don't know what is causing it. I called the number on the back of the unit and they gave me the run around. I have called and can never get through. Can someone give me an idea on what is wrong with it and how to fix it? Thankyou.

Its macrovision. You need a macrovision killer or a Go video. I am not promoting you to buy that but that would take care of the problem

SOURCE: Magnavox DVD recorder...finalizing problem

The manual isn't too helpful either - "Recording error other than below," it says. There are a couple of possibilities. The Philips/Magnavox/Funai recorders automatically record in VR mode when you use +R discs (there are two possible recording modes - V Mode and VR Mode). Is it possible that you have switched disc types lately? If you are currently using -R discs, switch to +R and vice versa. The manual states that +/-RW discs take a while to initialize.

I couldn't find a full factory reset on that one, so you may have to unplug the unit for about 20 minutes to restore all the defaults.

Another possibility: Finalization requires some extra space on the disc. If you accidentally pressed the button that changes the recording format between SP, EP, LP, etc., you may not be able to fit the same amount of video on the disc that you were able to fit before. You can change the format by pressing the Disc Mode button on the remote - LP Mode will fit 3 hours worth of recordings onto a 2-hr disc and is considered a "medium quality" recording. Try changing the Disc Mode to LP and see if it will finalize the next disc that you record. The downside of this possibility is that the discs that you have already made that are giving you errors are not "fixable" - you will will have to re-record the shows to a new disc in LP mode.

Good luck!

Emerson VCR/ DVD Player Model # EWD2203 makes clicking noises when I watch dvds

OK, first go through these steps:
(if they doesn't work, then you have to say good bye to the combo.

1.) check if your DVDs aren't scratched (very common)
2.) check if your DVDs aren't dirty (eg. somebody held it in his hands after he ate a juicy marmelade bread)
3.) Try to clean the head (lens) of your DVD player with a cleaning DVD (at least 5 times).

Why can I only watch netflicks between the hours of 2am and 8am? Any other time of the day it will only constantly be loading a movie never to play it or it will show a error msgs.

It's most likely to do with the number of users accessing the internet in your area at peak times;

Try either upgrading to a priority service or if Netflix allows it downloading movies overnight to watch the next day.

I cant play some blu-ray disc how can i get some of them to work

since it doesn't have enough RAM in it, some BDs or larger multi-layer DVDs fail to play/load entirely Its slow to buffer BD, and even slower to upscale DVDs. It doesn't support homemade DVD+/-R movies. It also doesn't support video on CD.

SOLUTION:
to get the movie to play add a 4GB SD card into it and format it for use as extra memory. Apparently, some BDs require a lot of memory. By adding the SD card, DVDs and THE BDs load faster and have no play problems. The overall downside to the RAM issues and the SD card is that, when the SD card gets full, you will have to reformat it to get anything to play. Tho, all lost disc info needs to be rebuffered onto the card the next time you watch the movie.

Will not play a dvd

Since it played 3 movies before the failure it sounds like a defective unit. One word for you...REFURBISHED. Many returned "just purchased" items suffer from incorrect connections, customer misunderstandings and simply not knowing what the unit can and cannot do. The other side of that coin is returned units with manufacturing, shipping or customer damage (you plugged your speaker wires into an AC outlet?!!). Sure, the manufacturer is obligated to post "Refurbished" on the box after the factory repair has been completed, but tell that to the local sales person or stock clerk at your local "big box" store who quickly repackages the unit and puts it back in stock....Take it Back Jack!

I can't say 100% but it sounds similar to the problem I had with the same model . The sleep mode in the on/off switch had gone bad and a new switch fixed the problem. It was about $42 to rtepair at my local electronics repair shop. Hope this helps.

New dvd movie will not play

I rented Rush Hour 3 from blockbuster along with Woodcock and both did not play on my Sylvania DVD player. I did take them and put them on my computer and their was a page that came up INTERACTUAL
ENHANCED FEATURES
This DVD is enhanced with interactive features designed exclusively for use on a computer.
PLAY DVD with enhanced features (that prompted a download)
or PLAY DVD without enhanced features and you can play the DVD movie on your small home computer screen.
I believe that the DVD producers have added the ENHANCED FEATURES to be used on a computer and in so doing they do not work at least not on the Sylvania DVD players.

Movies on my recorded discs freeze after a few minutes of play

Sometimes this unit gets "confused" - not sure why -- but try first using a CD cleaning disk and let it start and stop a couple times (sometimes lens gets dirty and does this) - if that doesn't help then try unplugging unit and leave unplugged (from wall socket) for about 30min then plug in, set local time and then see if the disks play okay - sometimes this "resets system"
