I just installed WIn XP Pro and when the AC is connected the LCD is dim, but when it is on battery power the LCD is brighter. This sould be just the opposite.
Any ideas?
Thanks

rwalkero - I set them the same for both AC and Battery and I still have the same problem. LCD is dim when I plug the AC in and bright when I unplug the AC.

Go to the control panel and then click on the Power Options. The settings must be in reverse order.

This sounds like a minor solder crack on your power supply board. i would disassemble and preform a break point test with an voltage needle. This way, you can locate this hairline solder break and re solder this point so the full A.C. current can flow normally.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 power problem. When the AC charger is connected the unit will power down by itself within 10 secs the most. If no AC charger connected, the unit is fine.

Please try removing the battery then attached the ac adapter and see if the same thing happens. It is possible that the AC adapter is faulty already if it doesn't isolate the issue. Please let me know if the result. Thank you and regards.

Dell latitude d505 will not power on

the dim on and off indicates
the ac power jack or adapter may be bad
its charging battery then not
take out the battery
check the pin in the laptop to see if it moves
or the end of the adapter could be bad
even if the green light is on
try not to wiggle to get to work, or you can break connection

Dim monitor

Hello,

I am assuming this is on your laptop display and not a monitor connected. If this is the case, you most likely pressed FN + the DOWN ARROW. You can use the FN key (usually on the left side near CTRL and/or ALT) in combination with the UP and DOWN arrows to increase/decrease the brightness. This is real handy when you want to have longer battery life as the lower the display brightness is the less power it uses.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Replaced screen computer comes on, but screen stays black.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

If you see a very dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Dell Latitude D510 Screen Failed

Hello,

The 14.1" inch screen is compatible with Latitude models D500, D505, D510, D600, D610 and Inspiron models 500m, 510m, 600m.

You may also need a screen inverter - in fact that is often the reason a screen is considered to be failing. The lcd inverter can be one of the most common items to become defective in a laptop computer. You may need a lcd inverter replacement if your screen is dim, dark, colored oddly, blinking, flickering or has dark stripes. Just something to keep in mind.
Hope this helps,

Chris

Dell latituded600 charger lcd off,

Ok... that makes a little more sense... Here is what i want you to check... Disconnect the AC Adapter from the system and plug it into the mains, check the LED light (Should be Green). Then plug in the connector to the laptop, check the LED. If the LED turns off when you connect the laptop. Your Laptop motherboard needs to be changed.
