Question about Brother MFC-8460N All-In-One Printer

I have a brother MFC-8460N and I keep getting ink marks on my drum. I clean it good and try to print again and it goes back on the drum. It makes big lines on the page. What should I do?

All modes do this. I just got a new toner and it does the same thing so I have ruled that out. The problem seems to be the roller that is in the actual toner holder. I clean it and then ink gets back on the drum I just cleaned. It just starts caking up in certain areas. That is where the lines come from. Just don't know what to do from here. I ruled out the toner because I just bought a new one. I checked everything else inside there and everything is fine. I know it has to do with the toner and the drum when they make contact to make a print. It is like it is to hot like it is melting it on the drum. What else could it be?

What you are seeing is indicative of the drum charge corona being dirty. locate the blueish colored plastic tab on the drum unit and slide back and forth several times making sure you put back on the same side it was before you started. that will take care of it 90% of the time. if it doesn't, write back and we'll go further.

Check the drum cartridge for marks on it, if that dose not fix
is the toner cartridge genuine some remanufacted one are dodgie
the drum cartridge sould last approx 30,000 print outs
the worst case could be your fuser unit. only other option is to clean inside the machine. ps do not touch drum unit, drum
as it will duplicate finger prints and scratches.

i have had a second thought check all contacts inside of machine. isolate this fault

do you have these line on all function. eg print mode, copy mode, fax mode.

allways check the platen glass & the thin scan glass for marks on it, again try these options.

let me know how you go..

I keep getting the message, "Toner error, replace drum unit". I have a MFC Brother 8460N. Jane

Have you replaced the Drum unit? Drum unit on Brothers can be reset if copy is good and you do not want to replace. If copy bad replace Drum. Rebuilt drums work as good as original at half price.

Measure the distance between the dots and that will give you the answer to which roller is causing the problem I believe the Drum is the only roller large enough to just cause three dots.

Clean print heads brother MFC J425W

This is what I figured out to get the printing back to normal.

Open up the printer so you are looking at the place where the print heads go back and forth, you will also see the paper feeder. In the back left corner is where the ink is dispensed. There was build up on mine. As usual grab a 10 or so q-tips and some rubbing alcohol and clean the build up of goopy ink.

You won't ever get it completely clean because more ink will keep dispensing. Close it up and run a test print again.

What does it mean when you get drum error on a brother 8460N

The drum error either tells you to run the blue plastic tab back and forth several times to clean the corona, or the max print count is reached and you need a new drum. If quality looks good you can open the front door and press options or menu and you can reset the drum count.

My Brother Printer (model MFC-290c) and ink

On your printer take a look on the "ink management button"press it then look for cleaning using the arrows up and down then press ok or set or what ever the command the printer will display just try to perform head cleaning.try for several times lets say 4x don't clean too much it might ruin all other color if it has no changes try to bring it to a service center, they can soak it to a chemical solution, the head is clog.

Hi Phillip,
If you have changed the drum and toner, then check the fuser unit. The teflon coating on fuser film could be worn.

Print problems with brother MFC-8860DN

Replace the drum. The drum is failing.
When you replace the drum open the front door of the machine where thr drum and toner is.
Hit the clear/back button. Press 1
That resets the drum count after you replaced the unit.

Good luck!
