Line when coping from document feeder

I get line on copied documents that are copied from the document feeder. There is no line when printing or when scannining from the glass. This line runs full length of the paper slightly left of center. Have tried cleaning the wheels that I can see from under the cover but did not help. Thanks for any ideas

Thank You for your quick reply. When I open the document feeder cover I do not see any glass. It looks like a mecanism that will need to be taken apart as there are a number of screws and clicps that look like they hold things together. Not sure what I will all run into if I do that. Do you know of a break down sheet on this unit?
    Thank You

I feel dump having to have this so clearly defined before I got it fixed. The fix is exactly as easy as is stated in the first comment. I was just blind to there being 2 different scanning glasses there.

THANK YOU for the excelent help

    Ray

The first solution is correct. There are two pieces of glass (the second one is one inch wide at the left side of the printer next to the big piece of glass). I missed it the first time like the other guy. This is my second Brother scanner, and both did this. Thank goodness I found this solution so I can salvage this printer. Thank you so much!

If there is a line only when copying from the feeder then there is most likely some crud on the **** glass.

If you lift the document feeder, you will see a narrow piece of glass on the left side. Originals are scanned across this when the feeder is used, so a small speck of dirt becomes a line when copying. clean the glass, and it should be good to go.

You don't need to take it apart. If you don't have a user manual, you can get it here:

Instructions for what I described are on page C-22

First step. Using the glass, no document feeder, make a copy. Does it have the line going through it. If it does you need to replace the toner cartridge. If it doesn't then you have a small piece of dirt on the glass that document feeder uses to scan. It is usually a seperated piece of glass next to the large glass used for manual coping. Just clean that and you should be fine.

Ricoh MP 2500 copied documents have a line across top of page when fed into document feeder when document is scanned the line appears on the scanned version as well. line does not appear on...

Clean the scanner strip glass. This is the thinner strip of glass that runs from front to back right next to the large glass. This glass is only used when scanning/copying using the document feeder. The line you are seeing is because something has become stuck to the glass so when the documents are fed over the strip of glass, the scanner reads the stationary spot of debris as a solid line. Clean the glass very well using a cloth and some glass cleaner. I have seen something get under the glass as well but this is very rare. Rest assured tho that the line is being caused by something on this strip of glass.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

My Sharp Al-1642cs is leaving a black stripe on the paper when coping.

Does the line appear when you copy from the glass? Or is it Just the document feeder. If it is just throught the doc feeder then you have to clean the **** glass next to the main glass. It only takes a small dot to make a line. Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

If you are copying trough a sheet feeder or document feeder, you will need to clean a thin glass **** from where the documnet is scanned for copying.

Copier leaves an ink line down the front of the document when fed through the unit.

Hi there if the line appears when you use the document feeder then there is usually either Correction fluid or pen ink on the small piece of glass to the left of the main glass when you open the lid you can easily clean this by wiping the glass with windowlene or some sort of glass cleaner and this will get rid of your problem.

If the line appears when coping from the glass then the printout from the computer will be the same and that usually means that the print heads need cleaning. Take them out and using a soft cloth wipe the print heads clean from any dried toner.

Hope this help you
Thanks J
