I get line on copied documents that are copied from the document feeder. There is no line when printing or when scannining from the glass. This line runs full length of the paper slightly left of center. Have tried cleaning the wheels that I can see from under the cover but did not help. Thanks for any ideas
The first solution is correct. There are two pieces of glass (the second one is one inch wide at the left side of the printer next to the big piece of glass). I missed it the first time like the other guy. This is my second Brother scanner, and both did this. Thank goodness I found this solution so I can salvage this printer. Thank you so much!
If you lift the document feeder, you will see a narrow piece of glass
on the left side. Originals are scanned across this when the feeder is
used, so a small speck of dirt becomes a line when copying. clean the
glass, and it should be good to go.

Check your flat bed and Document feeder scanning glass need to be clean, if any dot or dust in scanning glass of document feeder it will appear a line, check this points first 1- Check printouts from computer or FAX if it is clean problem in scanning section 2- Check using Copying a blank paper using only Flatbed if it prints without any line its problem from document feeder Scanning glass So solution is clean the Document feeder scanning glass using wet cloth, note careful about wet cloth switch off the machine and clean it
First step. Using the glass, no document feeder, make a copy. Does it have the line going through it. If it does you need to replace the toner cartridge. If it doesn't then you have a small piece of dirt on the glass that document feeder uses to scan. It is usually a seperated piece of glass next to the large glass used for manual coping. Just clean that and you should be fine.
Clean the scanner strip glass. This is the thinner strip of glass that runs from front to back right next to the large glass. This glass is only used when scanning/copying using the document feeder. The line you are seeing is because something has become stuck to the glass so when the documents are fed over the strip of glass, the scanner reads the stationary spot of debris as a solid line. Clean the glass very well using a cloth and some glass cleaner. I have seen something get under the glass as well but this is very rare. Rest assured tho that the line is being caused by something on this strip of glass.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
Does the line appear when you copy from the glass? Or is it Just the document feeder. If it is just throught the doc feeder then you have to clean the **** glass next to the main glass. It only takes a small dot to make a line. Hope this helps. Have a nice day.
Hi there if the line appears when you use the document feeder then there is usually either Correction fluid or pen ink on the small piece of glass to the left of the main glass when you open the lid you can easily clean this by wiping the glass with windowlene or some sort of glass cleaner and this will get rid of your problem.
If the line appears when coping from the glass then the printout from the computer will be the same and that usually means that the print heads need cleaning. Take them out and using a soft cloth wipe the print heads clean from any dried toner.
