Hi , when switching on , it just clicks and clicks. It will state usb cable attached... but wont show as a device on media page... it lists as an e drive but nothing inside it .
Only got this second hand yesteday although never been used, so so fed up as they have advised that i need to send it to tech support for 2 weeks!!! please help

You have not stated any model no. which makes it hard to provide a solution. The iPod A1136 is the fifth generation iPod from Apple that uses a click wheel to scroll through your device's media library, and may occasionally lock up when you attempt to play a song or display a photo. This error error occurs when the hard disk is unable to access the information and stalls while opening a file. A reset of the device usually corrects the problem, as it clears the device's memory and any errors. Check your iPod's buttons to determine if the cause is due to a hardware error before resetting the device, as the problem may be due to the iPod's hold switch. Slide the hold switch at the top of the iPod to the right, and slide it back to the left to ensure the switch is in the off position. Hold down the center button in the click wheel, and at the same time hold down "Menu" on the click wheel. Continue to hold the iPod's buttons until the device's screen shuts off, turns back on and shows the Apple logo. Plug the iPod's connector cable into the dock connector on the bottom of the iPod. Plug the other end of the cable into your computer's USB or FireWire port to charge the iPod. Wait at least two hours for the iPod to charge. Launch iTunes on the computer, and click "Controls" of the iTunes menu. Click "Eject iPod" in the sub-menu to disconnect the device. The iPod takes four hours to completely charge its battery. Hi, archos vision 1 player not recognized by the computer
This may be caused by one of the following: 1. Minimum system requirements were not met. 2. Corrupted drivers. 3. Computer restrictions. 4. Power issue.
To resolve this issue, try the following solutions:
SOLUTION 1 - For brand new player or first time connecting to this computer.
For Windows XP users: verify the following operating system requirements are met. - Windows XP SP2 or higher - Windows Media Player 10 or higher
Download and install the latest Windows Media Player if it's not installed.
For Windows Vista users: If the player is seen in My Computer when using MTP mode, but not showing in Windows Media Player. - Download the hotfix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939211. - Run the hotfix.

NOTE: If you are trying to connect to a Computer at work that is part of a network, there may be user right restrictions that are set to disable access to new hardware or stop any program installations. You may need to check with your IT administrator to see if this is causing the problem.
SOLUTION 2 - Refresh the driver
STEP 1 - Connect the archos vision 1 player to the PC The screen on your player should turn on, show 'Connected' and indicate the battery charging or full. - If the player does not turn on try other USB ports or on another computer if one is readily available. Ensure you are connecting directly to the computer USB port and not to a USB hub. - If there is nothing showing on the screen and the player does show up in as a storage device in an explorer window, then the screen is just not working.
If you receive the error "USB Device Not Recognized" on the computer, the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.

NOTE: archos vision 1 Players can connect to your computer in MSC or MTP mode. Exceptions are archos vision 1 Connect and archos vision 1 Express which only use MTP mode. MTP mode is the recommended and default method for archos vision 1 Players when used with Windows OS.
The archos vision 1 player will show up on Device Manager's right pane as: 1. USB Mass Storage device (if the player is set to MSC) 2. Portable Device (if the player is set to MTP mode)
If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) beside the device, try to refresh the drivers.
STEP 3 - Refresh the drivers 1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall. 2. On the top menu, click Action then select Scan for hardware changes.
NOTE: If a device with yellow exclamation point (!) continually appears and disappears, then the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.
Step 1. Download the firmware to your computer-->click HERE to download the update file When you download the update file, your browser may warn you that the file 'could be harmful'. This is normal because browsers are not familiar with files that have a .AOS extension and suspect that they could be malicious. These files are not harmful to your computer.
Step 2. Turn on your ARCHOS device and connect it to your computer with the USB cable
Step 3. On the ARCHOS, choose to connect and wait a few seconds for your device to be detected by the computer
Step 4. Copy and paste the downloaded firmware (.AOS file) to the ARCHOS device.
Case 1: Your ARCHOS is detected by your computer as a Hard Drive (E: for example) in Windows® Explorer. Paste the update file directly onto the ARCHOS hard drive icon.
Case 2: Your ARCHOS device is detected as a 'Mobile Device' in Windows® Explorer (not as a hard drive) and you see just two folders Data and Media when you open it. Paste the update file into the folder called Data.
Case 3: Your ARCHOS device is detected as a 'Mobile Device' in Windows® Explorer (not as a hard drive) and you see Internal Hard Drive when you open it. Open this Internal Hard Drive icon and you will see the various ARCHOS folders inside (Video, Music, etc.). Paste the update file into this area but be careful not to paste it into any of the folders there.
Step 5. Disconnect the Device Unplug the USB cable (for 'Mobile Device' connections) or use the "safe disconnect" green arrow icon (for Hard drive connection) in the system tray before unplugging the USB cable.
Step 6. On your ARCHOS device, click on "Update Firmware" Click on the "tab" button to show the settings screen. Select the "System" icon and then click on the "Update Firmware" button. For the ARCHOS 104, 202, & 204, go to the settings and open the icon "System" where you can find the Update Firmware button.
On the Archos:
In the settings menu from the front screen, set your Archos to 'PC Hard Drive' instead of Windows Media Player. If it doesn't show as an external hard drive when you plug it into your pc, do this....
On the pc:
Go to Start\run, type diskmgmt.msc and click ok to take you into Disk Management. Your Archos should show as a drive in here and you can associate your new drive with a drive letter.
If you cannot see your Archos in this windowafter you've set it to 'PC Hard Drive' on the Archos, then you may have a dodgy usb cable.
Depending on which settings you have on the archos 5 or 7 itself, (you can select "Windows Media Player mode" or " Hard drive/PC/Mass Storage mode" when you choose enable USB a new letter will appear as shown below (if you are on XP - same goes for Vista):
