SOURCE: Non-system disk or disk error

hi there,
please make sure that there is no USB flashdrive or any other USB device connected to the computer.
If that's cleared and the same error happens please try to reseat the hard drive because chances are it is not detected by your computer. (you would have to unscrew a small cover from the back of the laptop and take the hard drive off and put it back in)
If that does not work try going to the BIOS and check if the computer detects the hard drive if not and you've already reseated the hard drive then it means that your hard drive has gone bad and it needs to be replaced.
If it detects the hard drive then try booting from a windows cd If you're using windows 7 or Vista go to Windows Recovery Environment or if you're using XP go to the recovery console.
Once you're on the command prompt issue a chkdsk /r or fixmbr command.
If that still does not work, you might have to reinstall Windows on your computer.
Hope this helps!

Till this morning every thing was ok, but when I

Working off of my experience with a computer with a flaky power connection to the hard drive and when the drive fails to spin up there no operating system to read. I get the same message. Reach in, jiggle a wire and restart and it's good to go.

You either have a failed hard drive or it is not spinning up, or the operating system on the drive is unreadable due to corruption.

Laptop won'y start up has non-system disk or disk error

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard diskhas failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty.First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

I got a message that reads Non-System disc or disc error replace and strike any key when ready. What do I do?

Hi,

Here the reason why youre getting the error message

Remove the non-system disk from your boot device. For example, remove the non-system disk from the floppy drive or the CD-ROM drive.

Change your computer's boot sequence in you Bios. Make sure that you select a device that has boot files (or operating system files) installed.

If you start your computer from a hard disk drive, install a bootable operating system (such as Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7) on the drive.

Thanks for using Fixya

Every time the system is turned on it says Non-system disk or disk error, replace and strick any key when ready. There are no disk in the disk drive or the sd drive. No matter how many keys you strike...

Your computer tries to "boot" from various devices:
* bootable files on a USB memory-stick or SD memory-card
* from 3.5-inch diskette drive (if installed)
* from CD/DVD disk
* from your disk-drive

Your computer tried to boot from your disk-drive, but FAILED to do so.

Since the disk-drive is "dead", it tries to boot from any of the other devices,
and displays that error-message when it cannot boot.

So, your disk-drive has "died". Ouch!

You need to purchase a new disk-drive, and reinstall Windows onto it.

I have evo n610c laptop but when ever i turn on the laptop itgives a messege that non disk system or disk error with some sort of noice coming from hard drive

This error message could be caused by the laptop not detecting the hard drive.
Check the BIOS to see if it detects the hard disk
If not the hard disk may be faulty or needs reseating. If the hard disk is faulty it needs to be replaced and Windows installed on the new hard disk.
A virus program may have infected the computer and removed or changed some system files - in this case Windows needs to be repaired OR Windows re-installed - this is the best option.
