Question about GE Profile Spectra JGBP90 Gas Kitchen Range
I have a Magic Chef [ model 6498VVD ] slidein gas range purchased Feb. 2000. I had a new igniter replaced in July 2008. Now the oven temp will not heat higher than 350 deg and must press down arrow to start, plus the broiler works only on low and must also press down arrow. Is it practical to pay for service to replace defective part? New slidein gas ranges are priced over $1000. A service call is $75 just to walk in the house to tell me what I already know.
Check the oven temp sensor with OHM meter. It should read 1100 ohms.
If not, replace it.
Otherwise the electronic control is bad.

Sounds like the thermostat controlling the gas valve in the oven is not working, I’m trying to find if the oven igniter is electric, but believe the igniter is electric. If it does light then not regulate the temp above 350 degrees, I am convinced the thermostat control is bad.
