Question about Amana NDE2335AY Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Dead Dryer I have an Amana Electric dryer- 3 years old. It died in the middle of its drying cycle and blew the breaker it is on. (first time breaker has ever gone). I Took it apart, cleaned out all the lint (lots) and cleaned the exhaust ductwork and outside vent. You can turn the electric motor by hand, I brought in the thermostat, electric switches and over temp sensors, they all checked out ok. The guy at the parts store said it was most likely a centrifugal switch inside the electric motor. I plug it back in, and it is still dead, but doesn't blow the breaker. I checked the cord, and the cord appears to be good. I used a jumper wire to get around the door switch, and it is still dead. Is there something else worth trying? Is a three year old Amana dryer worth putting a new motor into? The parts guy said it would be around $140. Or do I junk it and buy a new one.

Don't junk it. Dryers are good for years and years of service.

Do you know how to read wiring diagrams and schematics?

Do you know how to use, and have access to, a volt-ohmeter?

We can walk you through troubleshooting the failure if you can do any of the above.

I would say to replace the motor. The only thing I would suggest is see where you have power and where you do not have power. If it is plugged into the wall outlet then you should have power going everywhere including the motor. If the motor has power and will not start up then replace it. But I would check EVERYTHING out and make ksure that it is the problem and nothing else is the problem

My dryer we've had for about two months won't dry clothes. it heats up, but they are still wet four cycles later

I was thinking you have a bad circuit breaker. This dryer runs on a 2 pole 30 amp 240 volt breaker. The motor runs on one side of the breaker on 120vac. The heater has to have 240 volts to work correct. When that breaker is on the way out it will take a new dryer 3 or four times as long to dry the clothes. themobilian_294.jpg
If you are cleaning the lint filter out and don't have a clogged vent pipe themobilian_295.jpgthen in my opinion you have a bad circuit breaker. Seen it.

Super capacity Amana dryer is less than 3 years old. It no longer dries the clothes. There is no heat.

check your heating element in the back of the unit for breaks, if there is not heat that is your problem. the other issue can be a fuse that blew not letting power get to the heating element but the easiest and cheapest thing to look at first is the heating element

Breaker keeps tripping when I use Amana NED5500TQ electric dryer.

Heating element or motor. Usually heating element. Replace limit switch (inside dryer) during repair. Limit switch should shut off before breaker if working correctly.

After repair clean or replace plug/wire. Inspect or replace receptacle in wall.

It is possible that you could have a bad breaker in the panel. They will start to trip randomly when they are going bad. If not the dryer is drawing too many amps and the breaker is doing it's job. If the heating element is defective and drawing extra juice that could trip the breaker. Usually replacement breakers are not too expensive if you electrical panel is less then 20 years old and can be purchased at most home improvement stores. I would try replacing the breaker before you try repairing the dryer. If you install a new breaker and the problem continues to happen then you should check the dryer heating element. That component is what draws the most amps and would be the most common one for tripping the breaker.

The dryer acts as if no electricity is going to it. It shut off

Is this an electric or gas dryer? If electric, it would be wired seperately from the washer (220V vs 110V) and if so, maybe you tripped a circuit breaker or blew a fuse - that would be the first thing I would check. If you find nothing wrong there, I believe most dryers have an internal overload circuit and if you are not handy, an appliance repairman, or an electrician, I would suggest calling an expert.
If you did trip a circuit breaker and reset it, and it trips again.....better call for service.

Dryer heats up but clothes won't dry

Sounds like to me, that you need to check the vent going outside from the dryer. I had the same problem, and found a birds nest in the dryer vent on the outside of my house restricing air flow. If that doesn't fix the problem, look into a new heating element and or thermostats for the dryers. The old ones could just not be getting hot enough anymore. Good luck.

Won't turn on

First check voltage and breaker,(this is a big one)
next, if you have power to the appliance (120 gas dryer or 240 electric) then the door switch is probaly broken.

lastly, perhaps a thermal fuse located on blower vent. goodluck
