A few things if it hasnt started in a while it will probablyt smoke..also coilpacks are notourious in going in fords also if you see white smoke it usually means water and especially if you smell antifreezecoming out of the tail pipe could also mean youhave a blown headgasket or cracked head/block another way you can tell if gasket /head/block is blown check oil and see if there any water in the oil it will be a nasty greenish color usually denotes a blown head gasket-z

5.7 gmc smoking when it idles

Depending on what year, if it's fuel injected, I would SUSPECT a bad coolant temperature SENSOR.

I ran across 3 bad ones within a day using my scan tool. All 3 the coolant sensor was telling the computer (ECM, PCM, etc) the coolant was -40°. Yup 40° BELOW ZERO.

It didn't matter how long the vehicles ran it was still ALLEGEDLY -40°. Changing the SENSOR on all 3 solved the problem of black smoke and an overly rich exhaust. Along with high fuel consumption.

At least that's one possibility and I'm NOT saying it's a for sure fix.

It would be best to have a scan tool (not just a code reader) hooked to the vehicle to actually see what the different sensors are doing BEFORE firing the "parts cannon" at it.

Diagnose, THEN replace.

By the way, ALL 3 vehicles were GMs and all 3 did NOT have any sort of "check engine" or "service engine soon" lit up.

Hope this helps.

White smoke out of exhaust

Regarding 2001 audi a6 quattro 2.7t....i was driving to work the car was fine then white smoke starting coming from under the hood and tail pipe. i stopped veilce and alot of oil was dripping from front of car. I towed it home and i looked under the hood and there was oil from valve cover gasket. i let the car sit for a few days, had it running again for a good hour and no white smoke was coming out. I removed the valve cover and gaskets are all bad. i want to know can the valve cover gasket leak cause the white smoke to come from exhaust pipe?

1999 ford escort, runs great but when first started white smoke pours from exhaust. My daughter 1st car that she bought. It has over 150,000 miles. It ran great the 2 times we test drove it. The morning...

Unfortunately, it sounds like a head gasket. If it only does it when you start it, it is probably leaking antifreeze into the cylinders slowly, and as the engine heats up it will close the gap. If this is the problem it is only a matter of time before the head gasket goes completely and the engine will need to be repaired.

95 escort smoke from vents vibration when accelerating why??

The smoke you could be seeing may be steam, your heater inside the vehicle may have a leak and causing steam to rise out of the vents, if you are smelling the steam this is what I suspect.
Engine vibration could be a number of things, check the engine mounts to start, one of them is probably broken.

Car spits and pops like the points are bad in a 60s car.no power

Yes these optispark systems had all sorts of problems in wet weather most of the time you could replace the cap portion and that would solve it but most of the time I would replace the whole thing including new plug wires, coil wire, and spark plugs .Due to the fact that you have to remove water pump to access opti spark
